Welcome to the new thread ladies! I have put it in here as we have been dicussing the films and the books, so didn't think it fitted fully into the book/film section!

Aha, I wondered why there were two threads!

I hope you do find your books and join in Moles.

I am enjoying book one, although it feels a little more aimed at children than some of the older books (As I know it's meant to be but I do think I pefer the later ones! )

The Prisoner of Azkaban has always been my favourite, and it was my favourite film too until I saw HBP. I'll have a rummage around in the kids' rooms today to find HP1

Hello, marking my place for complete re-read.

Also I think this website is fab for anyone wanting a bit more, it's fanfiction but very carefully vetted and only stories which fit completely into canon. I love the story of Ginny's natural birth!

Marking my place too.

I started rereading HBP before the film came out, then went on to reread Deathly Hallows and have just finished Prisoner of Azkaban.

I'll go back to HP1 now

Just re-read the lot quite recently. What impressed me was how well-plotted the whole thig was - there were things in book 2 that appeared throw-away additions, yet turned out to be v significant.

JKR is not a great writer, IMO. I doubt that the books will stillbe must-reads in 100years (in the way that say, the Narnia books have been). But she puts together a Rattling good yarn, to be sure.

I just re read them all in a very random fashions, starting off with Deathly Hallows, then Prisoner of Azkaban, then the first 2, then Goblet of Fire and finally Order of Phoenix (I had read HBP just before the film came out).

My faves are Prisoner of Azkaban, then Half Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows.

I am deeply in love with Sirius Black (true confessions time).

Interesting that we all seem to prefer Prisoner of A. Perhaps proof that JKR was allowed to get way too wordy in her later books.

Loving the MN name FelixFelicis! I am thinking of adding something HP esque to mine but not sure what!

I am not a big sirius fan. Not a big fan of Tonks either. or Lupin. Or.. Well I could go on but I better not!

OH I really rather fancy Sirius, I must admit (but not the guy in the films).

Just marking my place on this thread. My favourite book is HBP, mainly because it is the one that features Dumbledore the most.

No prizes for guessing who is my favourite character.

But what can anyone have against Lupin? I think he is a gorgeously tragic character.

janeite · 03/08/2009 16:57

Lupin is yummy - but I'm not quite convinced by the guy who plays him in the films - he looks rather too '1940s public school teacher' to me.

But Lupin is a bit wet, isn't he? Alright so he has the minor difficulty of being hated by society but he won't commit to his family until Harry shouts at him. And he lets James and Sirius pick on Snape horribly despite being a prefect.

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 03/08/2009 17:03

I just reread the first one for the first time in ages and picked up a couple of things I never noticed before.
Hagrid tells Harry that his mum and dad were head boy and head girl, while in OOTP when he is all upset at not being a prefect, Sirius consoles him that James had never been one either (and so clearly not head boy).
But other than one or two small things like that it is amazing how many of the tiny details from book one end up being important later on. She must be incredibly methodical in her plotting.

Dumbledoresgirl · 03/08/2009 17:09

Poor Lupin! He has suffered so terribly at the hands of fate and has really low self-esteem. I think that accounts for his reluctance to commit.

And as for not stopping James and Sirius from tormenting Snape, well, it is funny how you look upon that as a negative. I was thinking he was better than the other 2 because he did not join in. Kind of the glass being half full rather than half empty. Funny how we can look at the same man and the same aspects of that man, but see them from different angles.

NO - definitely weak/in awe of the cool kids. Not nasty, just without the self-esteem (agree with you there) to do what he knew was right thing.

I don't much like Sirius either. Him and James were just bullies. Ds and I are reading HP1, we have done it all wrong and read so far in the order of 5,4,6,7.
7 being my fave.

ladyglencorapalliser- im sure it says somewhere in the books that you dont have to be a prefect to be head boy/girl.

Just started reading HP1 again last week but he got hyjacked by some stupid shiny volvo owner. I will have to go find him again... he is so cute in the first book. HP I mean!
