new carpets can baby go straight into the room?

We are moving into a brand new house soon and we will be having new carpets throughout, also the house will be newly painted.
In my old Miriam Stoppard book it says that a baby's nursery should be painted and carpeted at least 3 months before you move a baby into it. Our baby will be about 10 months old when we move.
Does anyone know if this is still the case or has anyone else been in a similar situation? Thanks.

bless Miriam, she does have some odd ideas! Give the room a day or two if you can with the windows open to air and it shouldn't be a problem. We have moved three times with little ones and they moved straight in after decorating and carpeting.

I think maybe the book was written when paint had higher levels of nasties in it. I would only be concerned if your baby has asthma or allergies.
