A long shot, but does anyone recognise this book title?

Both dds are studying the Victorian era this term, and one of the books they're reading at school is called 'Come back Lucy'. The library didn't have it, but gave me an SBN for it, our local, normally reliable bookshop said it was part of a school pack, and a picture book. According to dd1 it has a couple of line drawings in it, but is definately not a picture book.

I've tried Googling but all I get is Lucille Ball!

Any other ideas? TIAX

I've got it somewhere from my childhood, i'll try and remember who it's by. It's really spooky, it's about a girl who has to go and live with her uncle(?) and meets the ghost of a Victorian girl, the house used to be a school, and nearly gets dragged back to the past. It's excellent, i loved it as a child. It was televised when I was about 10, c.1980.

Yes, she lives with elderly Aunt Olive, and when she dies Lucy has to go and live with another uncle and aunt and their rowdy children, that's where she meets Alice the ghost.

Yippeee!!! Thank you both so much! I'm doing a little hop now - I need to get out more! Don't suppose either of you know who published it? Doesn't matter, I've got enough to go on, I think. THANK YOU!!!!

Blimey, sounds far too scarey for me, let alone a 5 year old!

I remember it too. Did Lucy smash the mirror in the end?

Enid, I couldn't get that link. All I get is a fart from our speakers, and a link to the Albris home page.

BTW, if any of you are wondering why I don't just ask dds' teachers, it's travelling through 3 year groups, and I couldn't. Just in case you were wondering

OMG that's so wierd - they made a tv series of this in the late 70s I think - it just popped into my mind this morning and I was wondering about what happened to all the kiddie actors in it. Spooky

There was a sequel called 'Lucy Beware!' too.

Charlotte Sometimes, by Penelope Farmer, is very good. In fact all Penelope Farmer's novels including her adult ones are good.

It was rather good on the telly, wasn't it; I always envied the girl cousin's hair.

You can get it from Amazon - published by Red Fox for £3.50. Great book, really spooky.

This is the Amazon link (copy & paste it into the address line)

www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0099267195/qid=1116874655/sr=8-2/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i2_xgl/026-3457352-3893252?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

Red Fox is an imprint for Random house, but there wasn't anything on their site - probably it's an old print. Amazon have two editions though, and one of them has 24 hours availability - they also do second hand, if you are on a limited budget you can get one for £2.32:

www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/tg/detail/offer-listing/-/0099433397/all/026-3457352-3893252?tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

Good luck and I hope you enjoy reading it!
