Being a SAHM doesn't mean I'm brain dead!

It occurred to me today whilst perusing a few threads here, that when I was in full-time employment (pre-mummy days)I spent up to 8 hours sat in front of a computer screen moving lines around, deciphering designer scribbles and shaving millimeters from armholes with very little intelligent conversation.

I wasn't appreciated or thanked.
There was no job satisfaction.

When i wasn't stressing about cutting ratios I was out meeting twats and drinking myself into oblivion!

Now however I have intelligent conversations with other like minded mummys, I have time to read the paper and some enlightening daytime tv.
I've become a keen gardener who grows my own veg. I buy and sell 20C antiques (e-bay).

I have pleasure in the knowledge that I have brought two intelligent, well mannered, healthy and beautiful girls into the world.

Total job satisfaction.

I am not stressed, I do not have to tolerate insufferable work colleagues and I DONT HAVE TO BLOODY COMMUTE!!!!

One day I will have to return to the workforce being a SAHM, don't knock it!

Love your post forgetmenot - except I have no intention of going back out to work. Will carry on working for myself freelancing but that way I can fit the gym, lunches with ladies , and nail appts around it - not to mention shopping without kids and without other people's kids (in term time) HURRAH!!

Sorry,I meant that someone e amiled me wanting to meet up next week when I go home (the person doing my old job incidentally ha ha ha!!!) and I gave her the number to our 'new' house (new 11 months ago anyway) and it was wrong.

Going back to work????? No way! How would I fit in all my reading and Turkish lessons????

Must admit Forgetmenot,

I only work part time because it pays really quite well - but no way does my job stretch me or challenge me / satisfy me....bit of a red herring that (i.e. the concept that paid work is more challenging to the old grey matter)

i thought it was quit sad that some mums find it such a chore being a sahm. Some women just don't have the luxury of choice!!
I didn't when i was a single mum.
Now I am loving every minute of it.

Time for boredom? There isn't any!!

When i think about the wasted single Sunday mornings I spent in bed!!!

Pah!

Isn't there a quote that says,
'Life is wasted on the young"?

Yes I understand what you mean Rickman.
But I just wanted us mums to appreciate the positive for a change.

Rickman - when SAHMs start being as honest as you then I guess WOTHs will start being honest too

example of my own brain-deadedness: I forgot my own age recently. I was reading an article about the new shadow chancellor with dh. "blimey, 33 years old ,etc etc". we both said out loud. i then clicked on a link to his biography. "1971" I spluttered, seeing when he was born. "Aaaaargh, he's younger than me". dh looked at me rather strangely. "yes dear, you're 34 you know..."
