John flipping Lewis have ruined the wedding surprise........

A colleague is getting married this weekend and we've done a collection for her. She has a gift list at John Lewis but we couldn't decide what to get her so just opted for vouchers, with a little message of "love from all at XXXXX Company"

We've done a little mock voucher to put in her card that everyone has signed and there will be a little presentation later today as it's her last day.

She's come in this morning, however, and already knows about the vouchers! She checked her gift list last night and saw how much we've got her and was also able to read the message we wrote, so now the surprise is ruined.

I expected her to be able to see what had been bought from the list as an update, but had no idea she would be able to see who it was from and what messages we put until it was all delivered to them after the wedding.

I know it's not a big deal but it seems a shame and such a daft system - is this how they all work?

I think that's how they all work, yes.

I had my list at a Spanish department store and you could access the list at any time online and see who had bought what plus any messages they left you.

I think it is how they all work I am afraid.

I knew JL worked like this - we bought a gift the day a list opened and the groom to be thanked us the following day!

I know the surprise is ruined a little but she'll still appreciate the voucher you made up for her.

That is how it works - but really she should have had the good manners to pretend to be surprised

LOL, she has spent the morning so far trying to find out who did it
