So is it ok to talk about our families?

Strange topic I know as this is obviously what we do on mumsnet a lot of the time.

I noticed that in all the discussions about "old" and "new" mumsnetters, several people said that they used to feel that they knew people better and discuss families by name etc.

I am relatively new here (a couple of months) and I just assumed that it was not done for whatever reason (privacy, stalkers etc?!) Am I wrong? I would love to know more about people eg names and ages of family, partners etc, where you live, what your partners do.

Basically I am just really nosey! If it's not the done thing then sorry for sticking my beak in and just ignore this thread.

I think it really depends on the individual - some people are very open and will divulge lots of info and others are more secretive. I'm somewhere in the middle - if you knew me and read all my posts you could work out who I was. But really who is going to do that ??

I don't use names simply because of the anonymity. I don't want people to find out who I am too easily. Even so, like many other mumsnetters, I have an alias to use for embarrassing threads (but NOT for Trolling ).

I used to find it really hard to apply the DS1/2 and DH thing to my boys and have had to delete names loads of times. We've only had a PC since Xmas so I'm still abit of a novice and the security issues rarely cross my mind about divulging info....... although I'm not silly giving out phone no's and addresses.
To follow on with what everyone else has said I'm 30 in June, have 2 boys aged 4 and 22 months, another one( don't know which though) on the way due Sept, and married.
