clark's grrrrr!

went to clarks today to get dd's feet measured as it has been 8 weeks since her last shoes and i knew she needed new ones, got there and it was mega busy...took a ticket and waited half an hour to be seen to, now some of you may now dd has had probs with her foot lately and only had her cast off on tues, so i mentioned this to the girl, that her foot may be still a little tender or dd may create as sooooo many people have "messed" with her foot lately

the girl measured dd's feet and she had gone from a 4.5 h, to a 5g, so she asked me which shoes i liked and went to get them, then came back with the shoes checked the fit and said, they are a little tight on the top and if we lossen the strap they will slip?!? then asked which other shoes i liked...this went on and on, dd was getting seriously hacked off at this stage as she had tried about 6 different shoes by now, then i asked about doodles, so the girl went into the back came out with 4 different pairs of doodles in dd's size (sigh) tried them on, no good they are not deep enough at the back of the heel, by this stage i was getting seriously wound up, why sell doodles in that size if they slip off the heel????

i asked to speak to the manager, who was on her lunch, she came out and was very off hand with me,said they could order but not on a saturday?!? explaining that the girl dealing with us was a trainee!!! then the manager walked off without saying sorry or anything, i left the shop ready to kill someone after spending near on a hour in there and coming out with no shoes grrrr!!

why measure toddlers feet and say oh yes she is a size 5g if none of the shoes that size fit her?!? completely and utterly confused

anyway there is my rant, if you have got this far, you have alot of patience lol

for you hun!

i was in clinks a few weeks ago and overheard one member of staff saying to a customer..yes your son is a size 4 one one foot and almost a 4 1/2 on other.....but just get size 4's..they'll be fine!!!WTF...i check dd's feet now and as sizes varie from shop to shop, make my own judgment!

i think its because different styles come up slightly differently.
i agree, the managers behaviour did seem unacceptable. dont go to that clarks again. i generally find that the smaller clarks stores tend to be better with their customer service. also, dont shop on a saturday unless you can help it.
you mentioned a cast? is that like the sort than goes on for broken bones?

lilsmum... i work for Clarks and it is a lie that they can't order on a Saturday!!!!
We very often phone telesales on a saturday for people!
I would complain if I were you. I think I must work in a really nice Clarks store after hearing some of the stories from people on here!!!

Have to say though, different styles fit feet differently, and although they didn't fit your DD, that doesn't mean that they wouldn't fit another child witht he same measurement... because it depends on the shape of the foot too... but that is besides the point!

The ones that were too tight over the top... did she see if they had them in an H?
ARGH! I wish you could come to my Clarks... I would find you something to fit properly...
trainees should have someone with them when fitting... or at the very least have someone to check the fit each time.

Definitely complain though... to head office!

Can I just start by saying I was a Manager for Clarks before I had my dd.
Firstly the trainee shouldn't have been serving on her own. If she's working on adults thats fine but when you train to be a trained fitter you have to have a fully trained member of staff with them to check each fitting. This has to be done for the first 50 fits. So your right to be cross about that.

As for the fitting, again wrong on the stores count, they should always always always say the measurement is just a guide. Like EM says you could go to another store and the size be completly different.

Which store was it and do you have another local store?

i hate shoe shopping for dd2, she is G fitting and its rare we find anything to fit her. am after some t-bar doodles, but local shop hasnt got any in her size that we like.

i remember a trainee lad trying to force a shoe on my dd1's foot, he said she was a 5E. i went to another clarks store and they measured her as a 6F.

I always made it clear to my team that children with splints, problem feet etc should be served by myself.

Ooohh if only I still worked there.

Well I'm going to take a pair of doodles back. I bought them for DS who has a wide and very high foot for indoor shoes for nursery. And he has had them two weeks, only worn them inside and complains that they are too tight. Only thing is, his name is written in them. Not looking forward to it.

Actually generally speaking Clarks are rubbish for DS;s feet. So I always take him to a shop that sells Startrite as well. He always ends up with shoes/trainers etc with velcro but the straps won't go all the way over and all fluff, dirt etc sticks to the uncovered bit.

NBG, I used to ALWAYS serve this lovely little boy with club feet... he's the sweetest little thing and he has to wear big splints on both legs bless him.

Can't decide if I want to go back after Mat. Leave or not!...

It's a tough one. They should be quite flexible with your hours. They have to be.

It was a tougher decision for me as I had to take 4 trains to get there and back plus all the hasslles of managment and then going home to a baby.
My decision was made up for me!

Lilsmum, if you try the site again they have an automatic service for sending a message IYKWIM.

Misdee, yes you do get discount but as for the pay I'm not sure. It varied so much up and down the country. South of the country paid better than the north.

lilsmum, I must have missed the update's. I'm sooo happy to hear Lilly is back on her feet !

I've fallen out with Clarks too, they just don't do shoes that fit my DD1 and now, they have bought out Elephanten and don't intend to continue the line. Guess which shoes were the only ones that fit DD1 correctly? Yup, Elebleedinphanten .
