my bag shows 1kg and then shows a funny shaped e - do you know what that means?

claricebeansmum Tue 16-Jun-09 17:34:24

I always assumed it was some sort of EU approval of a kg IYSWIM

EccentricaGallumbits Tue 16-Jun-09 17:34:36

that's a european Kilo. it's a bit smaller than the more superior large british Kilo. YOu've been diddled out of about 8g of sugar.

oooh cheeky feckers. They'd better not do that to wine.

TheProfiteroleThief Tue 16-Jun-09 17:35:36

omg!really!

claricebeansmum Tue 16-Jun-09 17:37:08

How on earth can a European kilo be smaller than a British one? Surely a kilo is a kilo?

EccentricaGallumbits Tue 16-Jun-09 17:39:13

Nope is foreign conspiracy.

You know those lightweight wine bottles? Because the glass is thinner is there more area inside the bottle for abit more wine?

snigger Tue 16-Jun-09 17:39:20

It's the average weight mark.

It means no more than 1 in 40 packages can be below the nominal weight, and the small e is a pan-European 'guarantee' of packing to this standard.

claricebeansmum Tue 16-Jun-09 17:40:10

what lighweight bottles?
Where?
Which ones have more wine in?

snigger Tue 16-Jun-09 17:40:21
