Sorry if this is likely to make some people puke.. .. but I HAVE to share!!! I posted a couple of weeks ago about unexpectedly meeting Cherie at DD's school.. but now I have met Tony.. who (sorry again...) I have a real thing about... ..

We went to The Strand (a country park/play area type place) at Gillingham, Kent today. As soon as we arrived we saw a bit of a crowd and a few camera men/black suited men etc.. so I said to my friend 'you go and see who it is while I get DS out of the car..', then my phone rang.. it was my friend's DH (who had arrived just before us in another car and parked elsewhere) and he said 'If you don't hurry up you are going to miss your hero..." and as he said it I suddenly realised I was looking straight across the car park at Tony Blair!!!! I dropped the phone onto the floor of the car.. !

I dragged DS out of the car (left wheelchair behind and he's no light weight!!) and raced across car park and kind of loitered.. and he suddenly came over!!! I nearly died! I had a second or two of thinking I was going to faint dead away.. then got myself together and said hello.. shook his hand etc.. he said hello to DS.. then went off and spoke to someone else. My friend was frantically snapping pics with my (crap) phone that nobody can actually work including me.. (but got a few good ones!). I had remained outwouldly calm-ish until this point.. so decided to phone DH (who hadn't come as wasn't up to going out today..).. and once on the phone the enormity of it all sunk in.. I got a bit hysterical... .. then realised TB was walking away with his entourage so I said 'Gotta go!' and pursued the Premier through the crowd.... only to get waylaid by Gordon Brown (who I seriously do NOT have a thing about!!).. honestly, he came straight over to us.. asked DS his name and whether he liked football!!!??! I was chatting to him..shaking his hand etc.. (he shook DS's too) all the while craning my neck to see where TB had gone!

As soon as I escaped GB, I gave DS to my friend (as he was weighing a ton by now!).. and ran off to wear TB (followed by GB) was now buying an ice cream from the ice cream van!! So I skulked about until he was about to get into his car and managed to get close enough to take a few more pics.. and he suddenly noticed I was snapping him frantically.. stood still.. smiled straight at me and stood still so I could take my pics. I said 'thank you very much!' and he said 'that's ok!' and then got into the car eating his ice cream..! (GB gave his away.. what was the point of buying it one wonder's?! We later asked the ice cream man if he charged them.. and he said 'Hell yes!') PML!!

I was an absolute basketcase for about 2 hours afterwards.. thank God my friends were watching all our kids!!! My friend had to feed DS his picnic as his mother was completely useless!!

Can't believe I have unexpectedly met and shaken the hands of both the Blairs within 2 weeks of each other! I had no idea he was going to be there!!!

Ok.. hysteria over.. sorry if I have made anyone nauseous ... but this seriuosly was a big event to me!

PMSL - have just read this post on the other site

So has it changed your vote?

Was going to write something snide like "I hope you have washed your hands since" (not a Blair fan here) but reading how excited you were, I think it is lovely for you to have met someone who measn so much to you. And lovely that he was so nice. I always think that if I met someone I admired it would be awful if they turned out to be really boorish.

Huh! And all Elijah and I got was Michael Howard in Richmond last week. Didn't shake his hand but his eagle eyes spotted Elijah, ripe for a baby-kissing photo opportunity. Was on the South East News at 6, walking past shouting "Keep that bloody politician away from my baby".

fisil. Did you mistake him for Alistair Darling once, then?

It must've been when he was a very new boy - several years ago now. A friend of ours (a civil servant) worked for him and was leaving. So he had a big leaving do at no.10 for him - and we were invited. I promised myself I'd only have one glass of wine, but there were these waiters who kept topping it up when you weren't looking. So by the time it got to speeches I was fairly well gone. In his speech our friend mentioned dp and we stood there glowing! Straight after the speeches Cherie came right over to us and picked up on what the friend had said in the speech about us, and we chatted away with her (as everyone says, much better looking in the flesh, and a lovely person). Our friend was busy having photos taken with TB etc. and decided that he wanted Cherie in one shot, so TB shouted over "sweetheart?" and she turned. And because I was p*ssed I shouted back "yes, darling?" Which he had the grace to laugh at. Next day was the only ever hangover sickie I've ever had!

I'm jealous!

Was he tall and brooding?

Report
bubble99 · 02/05/2005 22:03

Yes, and several of his lackeys laughed. Thought I'd be edited out completely but I was there, in the background. Good job it wasn't in the foreground though as I looked like shit, I'd pulled on a top which had baby puke on it and a pair of sad looking maternity trousers. I'd anticipated a quick dash round Waitrose, dead posh we are here not an appearance on TV.

MP he was of medium height I think.. I am tallish.. nearly 5' 8...and he didn't seem to be shorter than me... think he was a bit taller. And my friend (who is seriously NOT into TB!) acknowlegded that he is actually very good looking in RL!
