Could I hijack this thread slightly and ask the International Mums about their countries: We are thinking of emigrating in the next few years, we have lived in the States twice, for three years each time with dh job, and have found it hard to settle back (been back 3 years now). The UK is so crowded, conjested, drinking habits of the young are sooooo depressing, want to take our two and relocate to somewhere warmer, drier and just, well, nicer!

My brother is in Perth and I feel that that is a long way to travel back from to see Grandparents etc, also visited him and found it quite like the States there anyway, we thought possibly Canada? The fact you can ski there would be a bonus

Thanks for any advice

I think you will find Canada more like the States than Perth
Yes there are big retail strips and malls, but that's about the extent of it
And don't forget that via Perth is the fastet way to get back to the UK from Australia

Bobbybob

How long have you lived in New Zealand? Is it somewhere worth considering as far as re-locating from the UK?

Have a cousin in Vancouver - we loved it there when we visited - possible jobs there for dh too

Brother is coming back for a year in Aug to decide whether or not he is going to stay for good - been there for 20 years but feels it is very isolated - maybe we could consider the East Coast?

I am in New Zealand too ...
We moved here 3 years ago and love it. Only downside is that it is very far from family but with email, msn, texting and cheap phone deals it isn't that bad ...
Oh, and can't find decent sausages here
And they don't have Ikea ...
Funny driving rules ...
and the weetabix is crap
But I can live with all that ...
Scenery stunning
Schools good
People great
Weather ... um, very wet where I am (Auckland) but never that cold (haven't worn a coat for 3 years) ... summers can be amazing ...

Ghosty-NZ weetbix is much better than the stuff here!
I saw a friend from NZ last week and am really missing the place now
especially timtams, milo, potato topped pies, mutton ham at xmas, teenage parties in woolsheds, the people, the sun, the space....
Think I will go back when ds is school age
