my top left one is coming throughand i can barely open my mouth!
has been coming through for ages and now its half way there and theres no space for it in my mouth and apart from the pain, its pushing my other teeth together
dentist has said if it carries on will have to go to hosp???????as it will have to be operated on
anyone had it done?any one know how i can ease pain so i can open my mouth more than a millimetre!

Yes, I had all four cut out under general anaesthetic when I was 18. I still have them in a pot somewhere! They're micking massive!

My bottom two were impacted, so growing along inside my gum towards my front teeth (eek!).

I looked like a hamster for a few days and had interesting yellow/purple bruising (made for gorgeous photos for my university ID...!), but apart from that, I was fine. Even ate a sandwich about an hour and a half after I came round from the anaesthetic!

Hope you're in less pain soon, but if they're causing shifting in your mouth of other teeth, have it out xxxxxx

My only advice is - get it operated on!!! Yesterday!! ... ahem. My DH had this with all four at once, they impacted into his other teeth, there was no room, he ended up getting every back molar removed as well because the wisdoms were pushing so hard that they cracked them...he was in absolute agony!

I'm not going to lie and say the operation bit is lovely, the relief when the post op soreness wears off is though! (And it won't be that painful if you do it one at once!)

Go for the op if you can face it - I can't. Hence I'm still having problems ten years after they started - an op really would have been sensible!

i had one out when i was awake and the other three i was knocked out for. i felt quite groggy for a couple of weeks after but was so glad id had it done. mine grew through at an angle, v painful.
one tip though - for the one i was awake for i tried to have a mcdonalds milkshake after, anaethetic hadnt worn off so mouth still quite numb, tried and tried to suck it up through straw and failed miserably that was until i realised it was actually dribbling down my chin.

def get it done!!

the one i was awake for i think took about half hour. the other ones i went upto guys early in morning had them out and came out early evening, its not that big an op but i would advise being knocked out as sometimes they can be quite difficult ot get out and if yr awake you can see what they are doing which can be slightly nerve wracking

I had my top left removed under local at the dentist - he did a cracking job - needed a dressing and was slightly swollen for bit but other than that - it was painless even went to the pub the same night!

i bought some ambusol(bonjela for adults) and that numbed everywhere it touched, felt like id already had a needle, but still couldnt open mouth

I had all 4 removed under general anaesthetic in hospital as they were all impacted, it was years ago (I was 18) and I don't remember much pain after the op, the worst thing was looking like a hamster for about a week, and also I remember waking up with blood all over the pillow and sheets, I hadn't realised they would bleed so much afterwards! Still, everyone's different, 2 other girls had it done at the same time as me and I don't remember theirs bleeding at all. Within a week I was completely recovered.

think the reason i havre to go to hosp is because its only half out and growing the wrong way, so they wouldnt be able to take it out at dentist

Evesmama, its really not that bad! I stayed in for a couple of days, but I remember the other two girls went home the next day, so its not a long stay in hospital. The good thing about having it done under GA is you ain't aware of anything! I am a wimp and would always opt for a GA.

Evesmama · 28/04/2005 16:04

i couldnt stay in overnight as dp is useless with dd for bedtimes and that and i have no one else, i would be more worried about dd than my teeth!!!

so guess ill have to opt for baseball bat to the jaw then

Well, it was 21 years ago that I had it done! Perhaps things have changed a bit since then and it might well be a day job. Don't take my words as gospel. (21 years? That has depressed me...)

I had all 4 taken out under general when I was 25 (19 years ago ).

It involved an overnight stay - but suspect that nowadays it would be done as a day case.

I had very little swelling and not that much pain. I think I was fortunate that it was quite straight forward. mine needed out as there was no room for them to come thorugh and the bottom ones wer trying to push through at an angle. They'd already managed to cut - so I was getting frequent infections and ear ache. The top ones weren't bothering me, but they said they'd take them out anyway as there was no room for them to go should they decide to come thourgh.

Because they were doing all 4, they said it had to be under general. I didn't argue

It sounds yucky - why don't you phone now? Like you say, you don't want to feel crap all weekend. See what they say, how soon you could get it done etc etc.
