Are you friends with your DH/DP's significant ex?

We see the ex a fair bit, and I'm pretty fond of her. I really can't imagine them as a couple: they are both so chronically indecisive, it's amazing they ever got it together or, for that matter, decided to call it a day. Guess it helps that they'd broken up a few years before I slouched onto the scene.
But I do feel frightfully modern when we all meet up for lunch (she has recently married). I'd happily go for a drink with her on our own.

used to meet up with dh's ex (through an orchestra they both played in) and my ex goes to footy close to where we live - so half expect him to pop up at any time. but nothing as civilised as that, bp

Nope... met the most recent one once and she claimed she was pregnant with his child (surprisingly enough no child materialised), and to stay away from him!! Oh, and that they were still a couple .

The one before that I would have loved to have met (his only other serious ladyfriend) as we seem waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too similar, but alas, she broke his heart and lives in Wales, so I haven't.

He takes the mick out of one ex of mine - who he has met as we stayed friends for a little while, and he takes the mick out of the rest (i share a little too much sometimes) but it was only recently I even found out their names. Think he's only had one serious ex and a few shags really. Did have the delight of his brother and his brother's girlfriend saying i was far nicer than his ex

motherinferior Thu 21-Apr-05 16:30:18

Now that is modern. I think the only one of DP's exes I've ever met was very nice - and so was her female partner; he is curiously coy about them.

He bumps into some of my exes for work sometimes, which I find hilarious. He by contrast seems to think it's outrageous that I'm in contact with them all.

That should have read ^at all^.

Am not Femme Fatale, incidentally, just Former Slapper.

expatinscotland Thu 21-Apr-05 16:33:24

No, cuz he doesn't stay in contact w/any of them.

aloha Thu 21-Apr-05 16:33:39 of them is dead, and one of them wishes us dead...the evil ex. So,um, no.

Well I am friendly with an Ex and his wife... I dont know how she feels about it but they were at my wedding, me and my hubby were at their wedding and we go to dinner and see each other 2 to 3 three times a year. But he is/was more my best friend for a long time rather than just a boyfriend or an ex..

lunarx Thu 21-Apr-05 16:44:17

a bit twisted here, i was friends with dh's ex for a few years before they met online and she moved from canada to england to be with him for 6 years. they broke up summer 2002 .. he and i started chatting online october 2002 and met november 2002. the ex wasn't okay with this at first, but it was okay after awhile.. a lot more happened, but i dont want to seem too 'jerry springer-y!!' now, she is married with her dh and they live in canada and we are all long distance friends.. she's been one of my best friends for 12 years and counting now.....

bakedpotato Thu 21-Apr-05 18:00:10

Oh, motherinferior, I was all set to acknowledge the superior quality of your moderness -- staying in touch with all your exes', indeed.
Does anyone do that, I wonder?

bakedpotato Thu 21-Apr-05 18:01:51

should have previewed, where did that grocers' apostrophe come from

scottishmumto1 Thu 21-Apr-05 18:17:34

you have to be joking. i would end up killing the cow. she is still trying to get my dh money even though she aint entitled to any. the way i see it she is trying to take food off my dd plate. i absolutely hate her. i wouldnt even spit on her if she was on fire

I always thought it was more a symptom of being from norfolk than being modern.

one of my best friends is an ex of dh's, plus I'm friends with another ex and he/we with one of mine. Are you confused yet?

swiperfox Thu 21-Apr-05 18:31:07

No way no how. If I ever saw her in the street I wouldn't be responsible for my actions- i would kill her.

However meand dp are friends with my ex asthey were friends already when me & dp got together.

Dophus Thu 21-Apr-05 18:36:22

No but for a while we (DP and I) used to go out wiht my ex and his new girlfriend.

I have a horrible memory of the first time we all met together. At one point DP was on his knees cleaning my ex's shoes wiht spit and a hanky. My ex would have loved it...

I ended up being quite good friends with his girlfriend.

deegward Thu 21-Apr-05 18:36:28

MY ex is ds1 god father, as he babysits for us if we need someone to stay the night!

hoxtonchick Thu 21-Apr-05 18:37:42

god no, they are mostly nuts, especially the spanish alcoholic who ended up in prison for drug smuggling.

bundle Thu 21-Apr-05 18:39:16

hiya hc
my mum & dad went to my first serious boyfriend's wedding, years after we'd split (after he'd shaken off his heroin addiction..)

hoxtonchick Thu 21-Apr-05 18:39:58

Yes, quite good friends with the woman he was once engaged to. He went to an arts event with her the other night (I expect that's modern isn't it?) becausee I didn't want to go. (I was right - he said he spent the rest of the night saying 'oh yes Blu would have said this and that about it, just like you!)
One of my sx's regularly visits my Mum and dad when he's in the area.
