Why is she never healthy???

DD is sat here again, clingy, slight temp, and smelling poorly.

She seems to just stumble from one bug to the next.

I have tried vitamins, she has a reasonable diet (when she eats... this week I have no idea how she has enough energy to play with the amount she has eaten ).

She has a horrible cough that is keeping her up half the night. Her hands are peeling. Both the doctor has said are just viruses. She has weird allergy looking bumps that keep coming and going for no reason.

I just want one week with a completely healthy, happy child!!!

I know that things could be a lot worse, and I am grateful that it is only minor bugs that she gets.

I think they just go through these phases, I try and reassure myself that it's building up their immune systems tbh. I can't remember when we had a week when everyone in the family was well, it must have been last summer at least. Someone always seems to be going down with something

Its never as specific as an infection, its all bloody unknown viruses.

I'm trying to tell myself that she is just getting it all out of the way so she is healthy for school age!!

My sister was like this apparantly... a sickly toddler, but hardly ever missed school. Me on the other hand caught everything going from school age onwards!

ditto with the viruses. None of mine have had anything like chicken pox or a specific illness, it's all colds, and coughs or just feeling yuck.

Flamesparrow, it might sound daft but do you go to a toddler group regularly? I say that because ds was exactly the same when he was younger, ill with random colds and bugs every single week. Drove me mad until I realised that it was the toddler group doing it. I changed to a different one and the problem immediately went away. Just a thought...

I go to Psycho mum's house regularly (she has 5 kiddies all bringing home nice school bugs)....

Ah, that would do it. At least your dd won't catch so many viruses at school time! Hope she feels better soon - and when she naps, you should get some rest too.

Awww, I've been out in the kitchen peeling potatoes, and have come in to find her asleep!

She rarely sleeps in the day now...

Hopefully a sleep will make her feel a bit better.

Now, where'd I put my book whilst she's out cold??

My ds is like this too, never getting to 100% healthy before something else comes along. Only time he's right is when we were off nursery during the Easter hols, but back and he's got the cough, runny nose, not eating all again( he had the same peeling as your dd too!)

Every day I wait for the call to come and collect him, and try to reassure myself that he's ok and building up immunity.

Look, flamesparrow, I really don't want to worry you, but if her hands are peeling, please ask the GP if he/she can be confident it is not Kawasaki disease. This is a viral illness in children that usually does need some treatment.
It was the peeling hands that made me wonder. Everything else sounds pretty familiar. Poor you and poor dd!

Marina, thank you. We have looked into that, and she doesn't appear to have any of the other symptoms - the doctor sent me away with a list and said if she starts showing any of the others too, then to go back in straight away.

It was slightly scary seeing as she didn't tell me much about it, and I had to look it up more at home ...

Kids around us are dropping like flies... we have so far had viruses, chicken pox, and suspected measles!!!

Oh PHEW, so glad your GP is on the case...it is like Plaguesville round where we live too. no Kawasaki thank goodness. Ds was a one-man snot and temperature machine for his first two years and has had the constitution of an ox ever since, hope the same happens for you

It is good to know that I saw a vaguely competent gp for a change!!!

She saw her hands and went off rummaging through text books (not at all off putting when you are expecting "Oh, its a common virus going around").

Ds peeling fingers were a side effect of scarletina, which came under the gp's virus description as in, 'it may be scarletina or scarlet fever' Course checked it out on the net, and his symptoms were classic stuff, the peeling following a blotchy red body and the normal temp/ nose thing.
