does anyone get paid for ironing???

am going to start ironing for money, but i wonder if its best to get paid by the hr or the basket/bag? if its by the hr, how does the client know how long it takes you, if you take it home to do it? and do clients expect it returned the next day?

You are brave NP. I hate ironing at the best of times. But I guess if you're gonna do it and get paid for it too it's a definite bonus. Sorry can't help on the costing side of things.

You aren't near me are you? I am swamped and my local service has closed They used to charge by weight, but I saw a shop advertising £1 per adult piece of clothing the other day (in sw london)

i might call up other services nearby and ask them what they charge, pretending to be a client

I have a few friends that get ironing done for them. You can price it per bag. Obviously a bag YOU supply them, like a small holdall. I'd say £10 per bag. Or you can go to their home to do it and charge per hour.... say £5 per hour?
You can do mine if you like... I hardly ever iron.

im in fife, moving to angus next mth, where i hope to do the ironing thing. 2 of my elderly aunties have a cleaner who is pg, so im going to take over from her when she leaves. im going to take their ironing home to do it. the cleaner at the mo doesnt do their ironing, im going to do what she did and the ironing on top of it. its £5/hr for the cleaning, but i dont know about the ironing

im going to hopefully do other peoples ironing too

I've been thinking of doing this too. I'd say you definately have to charge by item or by bag/basket/weight - otherwise you are bound to get someone argue that it never took you 2 hours to do their mountain of ironing and refuse to pay!!!!

our downstairs neighbour does it by the bag. she charges £12/bag and does it at home. she offers free pick up and delivery and next-day service.

Hi Nailpolish - I pay £15 per week to our cleaners for our ironing. One spends around 2 / 2.5 hours and this includes one set of kingsize bedding and one set of single bedding plus ironing for 2 adults 1 x (nearly) 5 year old and 1 x 10 month old. I usually filter first and take out sleep suiuts and things as I don't really want to waste her time doing them when there are shirts to be done.... She does them in our house BTW.

yes, nailpolish, they are laundrette bags. she does this whilst her husband works outside the home, although they have no children yet.

we pay an ironing service by weight - £1.30 per lb. I only send shirts and lightweight stuff as a rule, so it's really good value.

the professional operations use steam presses etc and can do a shirt in seconds - it takes a lot longer by conventional methods, so weight might not be the smart way to go for you.

I pay £6 per hour to get my ironing done, and she can get quite a lot done in an hour. I take the pile of ironing and some hangers to her and pick them up 24 hours later, but the day I drop them off is arranged in advance on the phone so that she knows she can have it done within the 24hrs. I absolutely hate ironing so to me it's money well spent and she earns some extra cash whilst still being at home to look after her kids.

I pay £3 per kilo for clothes. They charge £4 per kil for sheets.

biglips - im starting by doing it for relatives etc, 2 aunts have a cleaner who is leaving to have a baby. then im going to put an add in the spar window for more (havent started yet)
