Spoke too soon Tissy yesterday Got a phone call from mum an hour after posting. One of my opther sisters and her family were visiting and was concerned about his breathing. Got there and realised he diefinately needed seen ASAP to get nebulised with something better than he had at home. Called NHS24, miminum of 2 hour wait in triage system. We manhamndled him in the car and took him to ADOC. Nebulised but not much improvement. Round to A&E, got seen fairly quickly by nurse. Took a while for the doctor but we seemed to be getting things done quicker than last time. Got nebulised again, given steroids. I went home with my sister to collect my own car at 10.30pm when they said they would be transferring him to the ward. Came back at 11.20pm - he was still there. He was given IV hydrocortisone as he was still noisily breathing. Didn't go to ward till 01.00. 3hrs 45 mins hours after arriving at A&E following GP referral again, stuck on a trolley
Don't know the answer, understand the pressures but he was so uncomfortable by the time we were transferred.
Because you need escorted from ward to exit at niht, porter advised us not to come to ward with him. I said we needed to speak directly to nurse looking after him. He seemed a bit put out in the lift so I ended up explaining to him that Dad would not be able to give a proper history because he has Alzheimers. Mum went into ward with him and I gave details to a nurse very hurriedly in a small interview room. No time to even go over his medicines properly - they would work it out from the medicines we took in and if any problems, pharmacist would phone GP today. No plan of care shared with us at all. Still, we are only his main carers.....
