that's what I thought but I'm sure I read something from "how clean is your house" woman that you should do it the other way round

I always hoover then dust cos the hoover kicks up so much dust anyway I just have to do it all over again otherwise!!!!

Or simply doing neither could work!

do them on separate days. Dust and enjoy the clean surafaces before the hoover swirls up the dust again
