Scared and excited.

We have talked about this for a while, and I knew dh wanted to move there when I met him. But we are actually going to do it before sept!

Dh and ds1 went to France last week on a recce, and we have decided to pack up and go now, rent our house here, and rent there while we look for our dream home... It will be interesting with 4 kids under 6, but we know it is better to do it while they are still young.

Any advice ?

Mary - what r u doing on here? get packing!!!!

Velcrobott - where in France is your dh at the moment?

We are looking to have La Rochelle as our centre for work, and have loads of ideas to make money.
Dh is really into boats, he is doing his yachtmasters now, and we will hire our boat out for holiday, skippered or unskippered! And then he can teach etc.

smelly - good for you! you know that Rhubarb (fellow mumsnetter) did a similar thing (is the subject of a forthcoming Channel 4 doc if IIRC. I'm sure she'll be able to give you some tips can you/DH speak French?

My aunt and uncle moved about 2 years ago to Poiters (sp ??) and they love it, said they would never ever move back here now.

Good luck

Well we want to move to Provence (DH's parent live there) but it might just be too expensive so we are looking at the Sud-Ouest (South West).
I have been to La rochelle - very nice !
I wish you all the best - I am very excited for you!

have you read "more french please, we're british" byt Helen Frith Powell. its a light easy read with lots of scary & success stories to keep you grounded.

Also includes a good summary of the regions in france.

we're in paris and because of DH's job so slightly different situation - its getting to be great though!!

Smellymelly, can't. I'm waiting for my DH to move his office out to his aasistance house so I can have the office for storing all the packed stuff. I'm also still working till Friday and this weekend we have got to go and seemy Dad who has just had surgery. Can't pack anything until the week after next so it will all be a last minute rush, like the rest of my life I expect.

Will you work, what about your DH? How much French do you speak?

My dh's french is better than mine, but I can get by, for now. We know someone who can teach us more bofore we go, and I'm already starting to teach the kids who love it!

Interesting info about Rhubarb, anyone know when the documentary is??

Wow, mary - you will be busy!
