Help! Relocating to Oxford, where in the city shall we live?

We've finally decided that we have to move out of London to get some quality of life. Dh's firm has an office in Oxford (nr the station) so we are upping sticks and moving away from the big smoke to start a new life!

We don't really know oxford at all, so Oxford mums (or anyone else who knows the city...) where shall we move to?? We would like to be relatively close to a good primary school (DS only 8 months, but thinking ahead!) and quite close to the city centre. We would like to be able to afford a smallish 2+ house with a garden, but we will probably rent first. All advice / opinions are really appreciated!

I grew up in Oxford - haven't lived there for years though, so can't add anything useful re schools etc

Was there as a student, so I can't help with schools etc. I do know that it is quite expensive....but I expect that you knew that already. We had a one bedroom flat in Heddingtonwhich we sold about 15 years ago for £52,000. Headington is quite a nice place, with local shops etc, but still withing cycle/walking distance of Oxford itself.

I used to live in a flat about 200m from the station! loooong time ago!

hi there, was also there as a student. it is pretty expensive to live in oxford. nice areas close to the city centre are Headington, Summertown, Jericho and Osney Mead area (off Botley Rd, near station). you'ld probably get more for your money if you lived a little out of oxford like banbury or bicester.
