How can you tell if a cat is pregnant? I'd like to know before the kittens arrive if possible

Its really hard to tell so you would have to take her to the vets for them to feel her tummy

The gestation period for cats is between 60 - 65 days. The vet can tell by feeling or by scan if the cat is pregnant from about 17 days, the first sign you will see is when she doesn't come back into season.

Get her checked out by the vet, who can also advise you on caring for her while she is pregnant. If you don't want her to have any more kittens, ask him about having her neutered because, as trefusis says, an unspeyed cat roaning around while in season is very quickly going to be a pregnant cat!

What will you do with them Pindy? Kittens are lovely. Its ages since we had any as our cats are old now (we have 3 and they are all between 13 and 15) but I do have a hankering for another wee one, esp another Siamese

Oxocube - I will be offering them to good homes! Would you like one? Mimi (my cat) is a tortoise shell with siamese - very pretty and I think the father will be a jet black type (!) so the kittens will be really sweet - but then they always are - just like babies!

I will keep you all posted - I'm watching her tum

Oooooh kittens! We're not allowed a kitten because of my DH....congrats to your cat if she is

pindy, I would dearly love one but a) we don't live in U.K so a bit problematic and b) with 3 kids, 3 cats and a rather large dog, I think my DH would go spare

WARNING - stupid question just about to be asked

How do you know when they are in season, I have 2 cats 8 months old, (brother and sister) they are booked in on Tuesday to be spayed/neutured. I am really worried that she may already be pregnant as my female cat doesn't even have to leave home to do it.

Oooh, were in the UK are you Pindy? I desperately want a couple more kittens...I could maybe justify it if I was doing you a favour...

just looked it up and after about 21 days the nipples appear and are deep pink hue

gestation is approx 65 days

They can begin to call from 16 weeks

But it says not to breed ideally til over a year
