How much sleep do YOU need?

DH has suddenly decided I sleep too much .. I would say I probably get 8ish hours of sleep a night (occasionally broken by baby), however have only been sleeping that much for a few weeks compared to a year and a bit of broken sleep

I occasionally fall asleep on the couch

and a couple of times a week probably go to bed before 10pm

I do feel tired a lot and feel I'm not getting enough sleep

V. annoyed at DH for commenting TBH

how much sleep do you need

I NEED a lot more sleep than I actually have. Went to bed at midnight last night, woke at 7.30 and wondered why on earth I felt 'different'... Then realised it was because I'd had more than 6 hours sleep! I am going to bed early again tonight - earlier than midnight...

I need eight hours a night, but often have less. I think that if you need it, have it, but if you're regularly finding you get really tired even though you're having a lot of sleep, then go and have your iron/thyroid levels checked.

As much as i can get ....Ideally if i go to bed at 9 pm and get up at 8 that would be IDEAL ... but 10 - 7 is adequate (I am pregnant at the moment thought!!)
p.s - i dont have a daytime nap though

A lot less than I thought I did since his lordship arrived on the scene! He's two now and still waking me up at night. Isn't it true you'll never appreciate sleep the same way again until you have a baby! I often go to sleep the same time as ds, he doesn't need more than 9 hours plus an hour or so in the day, little bugger. So I suppose I get close to 8 on a good night, more like 6 or 7 most nights. I like to catch up on weekends.

Crikey Nikola - what time did your dd go to bed then?!

I need at least 8 hours sleep a night. I always try to be in bed by 11pm. I'm usually up between 6.30am and 7am every morning. About once a week, as a treat I'll take myself off to bed with a good book at 9pm - heaven!

Afternoons are the worst for me though. Around 3pm/4pm I could always fall asleep (only at home mind never at work!)

God loads.
I seem to have lost my ability to sleep late in the morning, even if the kids aren't around, but I do feel like bed about 9 most nights. Generally get there between 10.30 and 11. Also have a mid afternoon slump most days although can't actually sleep as am at work.
Feeling a bit more alive the last few days as junior has got better at sleeping but still woke me up at 2am last night and 6am this morning.
Yaaaaaawn.

Need at least 5-6 hours unbroken sleep to feel good in the morning, or at least 2 loads of 2-3 hours unbroken to be able to function.

I need at least 8-9 hours, after have a few sleepless nights with dd2 in december when she was better, i went to bed one night at 8pm got up at 9am, went back to bed at 11.30pm, got up a 3pm, then went back to bed at 7pm and got up the next day at 8am

Bliss, i could very easily spend more time in bed than the pillow given the chance.

I am going to bed at 7 tonight.

I usually go to bed around 12am and am woken up around 6:30. Sometimes feel sleepy in the afternoon but can't have a nap as DS and DN wouldn't let me!

Since my son was born 32 months ago, I have lived on 4 to 5 hours sleep on average, and thats if I'm lucky...He was born 6 weeks prem, had his intestines outside his belly, 4 defects of the heart, facial stroke, overlapping 3rd and 4th toes on both feet, and after numerous ops, and things, he still has night terrors, have been told that some mothers have put up with this until there kids have turned at least five......GOD HELP ME.... I NEED SLEEP..............

My Dh reckons he needs 12 hours a night!! Hmmm. Maybe I should get his iron/thyroid checked then as someone mentioned? I probably need 7 or 8 and get about 5 so permanently knackered.

sparklymieow · 10/03/2005 17:57

I need 9-10 hours but I am lucky if I get 4-5 hours sleep, or 2 hours unbroken. I normally get woken up about 5 times a night, and I feel so tired all the time. I will be so glad when our respite gets sorted.
