Help! I'm in the middle of an audio transcript and can't find out how to spell - I'll do it phonetically - burocracy?

My spelling checker keeps giving me autocrat as an alternative and my 1976 dictionary is no help.

bureaucracy - according to google

nailpolish Wed 02-Mar-05 14:31:30

I go with Gwenick

sounds good

WigWamBam Wed 02-Mar-05 14:32:53

Gwenick's right.

SenoraPostrophe Wed 02-Mar-05 14:33:16

are there 2 acceptable ones? Gwenick's is more popular in google.

Gwenick Wed 02-Mar-05 14:33:45

I find google really good for spelling (as I'm hopeless) I put in what I 'think' is right and do a search and invariably it comes up with "did you mean xyz"

Sponge Wed 02-Mar-05 14:33:53

Gwenick is right.

Gwenick Wed 02-Mar-05 14:35:04

senora - I think what happens is those are all the website with the wrong spelling on them - I've found some really classics while googling for stuff

WigWamBam Wed 02-Mar-05 14:38:15

There's only one spelling of it in my dictionary, and it's Gwenick's.

SenoraPostrophe Wed 02-Mar-05 14:38:48

usually, yes, but there are 5000 in the UK - seems high. Not that I'm bitter about being wrong or anything!

Gwenick Wed 02-Mar-05 14:39:27

[smug emoticon] Wow I got something write - and was the first to find it - I'm usually wrong or come in last..........

Tinker Wed 02-Mar-05 14:40:59

Dictionary.com is usually pretty good when you're stuck.

Sponge Wed 02-Mar-05 14:41:29

Smugness slightly tarnished by spelling right wrongly .

Gwenick Wed 02-Mar-05 14:42:04

[still smug look] I don't care

bonym Wed 02-Mar-05 15:02:19

Hmm, Gwenick, do you mean "right"

PiccadillyCircus Wed 02-Mar-05 15:03:04

A typing error I am sure .

bonym Wed 02-Mar-05 15:03:34

bonym Wed 02-Mar-05 15:05:52
