still cannot believe that is our little chap that thi shas happened to.

apparently the dog flipped out because of a musiacl bit of play equipment...which little dnep happened to be jumping on.

teh bigger children jumped away...but dnep wanst quick enough.

the dog picked him up by the leg and shook him for what my bro says was six or seven seconds.

by which time my sil pulled the dog off....felt hot patch...pulled his jeans down and saw terrible damage sad

teh ownwer apparantly said 'he's not a dangerous dog' over and again....,.DERRRR NEWS FLASH!!!

having been around he/the owner then somehow made a dash for it with the dog...and was obviously pursued by my bro ,some friends and other bystanders...i think he was arrested?..not sure but the police are def involved.

dnep is in hosp and will be for days...very deep wounds on his leg...three hrs in surgery to clean up....on morpheine...all zonked...poor sil with him.

this man must be a moron...a f*ing c*nting moron to not be able to update his opinion of his dog given what he witnessed....un bel ievable

MrsMatryoshka Sun 05-Oct-08 16:49:21

Your poor nephew hope he recovers quickly .

donnie Sun 05-Oct-08 16:49:46

this is so awful, and something I fear constantly when taking my own dds out to certain parks near us, where utter wankers like the one you describe have pit bulls off lead and look at you as if you are a moron when you show concern. I really hope your nephew makes a good recovery and that he is not to traumatised by this - how horrible for him. Maybe he is young enough for it not to make a lasting impression. I hope so.

The dog will need to be destroyed immediately, and if only the same could be said of the owner. Poor thing ( your nephew I mean).

UnfortunatelyMe Sun 05-Oct-08 16:49:58

arent americn pit bulls meant to muzzled?
I hope your nephews ok WTF was a dog doing in the play area anyway?

kiltycoldbum Sun 05-Oct-08 16:50:20

omg shock

its totally illegal to not have that dog muzzled in public!

your poor nephew! your poor family! sad

Guadalupe Sun 05-Oct-08 16:50:24

Poor little thing, thats shocking. I hope he recovers soon and the dog is destroyed.

edam Sun 05-Oct-08 16:53:54

Oh, poor little lad. Hope he's on the mend very soon.

Tempted to say the owner should be put down as well as the dog. What an arsehole, a. having a dangerous dog and b. taking it to a playground. angry

beansontoast Sun 05-Oct-08 16:54:45

my sil says she isnt even that angry with the dog...but the owner (NOT the cliched young working class white male etc)

she said the police say he will be fined.
teh dog will be destroyed.

thatsnotmymonster Sun 05-Oct-08 17:00:59

That's awful, poor wee lad, I hope he recovers quickly.

Thank goodness it wasn't even worse.

beansontoast Sun 05-Oct-08 17:02:48

she thinks HE should be charged with GBH...and that makes sense to me.

i really thought that a mnetter would have seen it...

it being primrose hill there was a gp and a surgeon

beansontoast Sun 05-Oct-08 17:04:07

ill finish that sentence...gp and surgeon in th epark.

yeah ...there is is teh small mercy that it wasnt his face or hands or organs...jeez

charchargabor Sun 05-Oct-08 17:04:27

Poor little lad, hope he heals up quick. The dog should be destroyed, as should the owner imho. angry

BoysAreLikeDogs Sun 05-Oct-08 17:06:42

Terrifying. Hope he gets well soon.

hambo Sun 05-Oct-08 17:06:43

Poor wee guy - it makes me sooo angry. angry

I agree the owner should be charged.

FattipuffsandThinnifers Sun 05-Oct-08 17:20:50

How awful for your nephew sad Hope he makes a good recovery.

Hopefully the police have got the guy and his dog? The dog will almost certainly be destroyed, and the owner should be given a fine at least for having a dog out of control in a public place. It's possible your DB could look into compensation too - ie private claim?

It's not a legal requirement to have any dog muzzled in public unless that dog has previously shown aggressive behaviour. Pit Bulls are supposedly illegal as a banned breed, but there are hundreds around (illegally). This may have been another kind of bulldog breed though.

I love dogs, but am so wary of any of them when it comes to children. Hope your nephew will be ok.

bellabelly Sun 05-Oct-08 17:57:13

What a horrible shock for your poor nephew and the family. Thank goodness there were medical professionals around and thank goodness the owner didn't manage to leg it with his dog. Wishing your nephew a very speedy recovery.

angelene Sun 05-Oct-08 18:03:04

That is horrendous, your poor nephew, I hope he recovers physically and also mentally as fast as possible.

The owner should be imprisoned and banned from owning any other dogs as he is clearly incapable.

ScummyMummy Sun 05-Oct-08 18:05:35

So sorry to hear this. Hope your nephew will recover fast.

Janos Sun 05-Oct-08 21:07:33

beansontoast I really hope your wee nephew is OK.

This is something that concerns me greatly as plenty of people round here walk round with their nasty looking dogs off a lead and could easily go for DS should the mood take them.

angry angry at the useless bastard dog 'owner'.

Piffle Tue 07-Oct-08 21:41:54

beansjust popping on to ask how your wee nephew is?

A fine is all?
The dangerous dogs act says pit bulls must be registered, chipped, insured and neutered.
Leashed and muzzled in public
Am appalled at just a fine tbh
Really above all that hope your nephew is ok x x x

I was hoping that this letter may be passed to the Parents of the child to express my remorse.

Dear Parents, please allow me to express how sorry I am for the unfortunate incident that occurred on the afternoon of Saturday, 4th October 2008. I can only imagine the distress that you as a family have gone through as a result of what I can only describe as my fault. I am eternally at your service and if there is anything you feel that I may be able to do to bring some comfort to you and your son, then please do not hesitate to contact me.

My dog Chelsea is not an aggressive dog. She is well known in the area I live as well as my place of work (as I often take her to my office) as a dog that would cause damage only by the wagging of her tail, hence the reason why her tail is constantly bleeding at the tip due to her wagging and hitting the tail against hard objects. Indeed my wife and I have just moved here from the USA where amonst other things Chelsea was a therapy dog for special needs children in New York. She has done her quarantine, is tattooed, chip, neutered and has always been leashed and muzzled.

I was driving home and Chelsea needed to relieve herself when I had to put her on the leash and let her out of the car to do so. Unfortunately Chelsea has what I believe to be a fear of bells and I think that at the moment I took Chelsea out of the car, your son may have jumped on the bells in the playground. I believe that Chelsea did not mean to injure your son but rather attempt to dig under the floor bells in the playground to get at whatever was making the bell like sounds and in her panic injured your child.

This is no excuse for what happened and both my wife and I feel empty inside and deeply upset for the unnecessary stress we have caused you as a family. I know that I cannot ask you to forget, but I hope that in time you may find it in yourselves to be able to forgive me and Chelsea. I understand that I may be asking for too much from you, but Chelsea is a big part of our family and it would shatter our world if she was put down due to my irresponsibilty. I am therefore begging you give Chelsea another chance as I will assure you that this will never happen again. I am willing to take full responsibility for this incident and to take further measures to prevent any such incident occurring again.

Once again my sincerest apologies,

Yours sincerely

Amir.
