Any tips on grouting tiles?!

I am going to attempt to grout the tiles in my kitchen tomorrow. I have never done it before so have no idea how to do it! I have never tiled before either but managed to do that ok. Only 1 tile fell off the wall, not bad considering there are over 400 there! Also managed to crack a few aswell!
Apparently, grouting is easy (so my MIL says), is there anything I should know before I start?

I've never had a problem - so it really can't be hard.

are you grouting or re grouting?! if your just going over the original grouting, make sure any milldew is off 1st, then just slap the grout over and wipe off the tiles before it dries, its quite easy really, I find tileing harder, as you have to get them all level!

I think it's quite therapeutic. Get one of those grouting tools from B&Q, slap the grout in the gaps then draw the tool down. However I often find using the tool makes the grout too deep so often just draw my finger down the line instead. Also don't let dry bits of grout get into the wet bits you are working as they'll dry lumpy.

MY DH isn't exactly Mr DIY but likes to think he automatically knows better than me when it comes to anything like painting, tiling etc. He stands there and watcxhes me and tells me I'm doing it wrong. But I grouted the kitchen floor tiles when I was 8 month pg with DS1.

Its one of the last jobs to be done in our kitchen. It would be nice to have 1 room finished, I mean, we only started it in August!
We are grouting not re-grouting. When my mum and dad grouted their bathroom, there was all lumpy bits of grout between the tiles and I really don't want that finished look!

Keep your tools clean and you won't get any nasty lumps.

Advice you can apply to most areas of life I reckon.

I use an old credit card to apply it as you get less on the tiles
