Any recommendations??

Hi there
I've just had the same problem as I bought a man's mountain bike and the seat was horrendous.

My bike is in the garage so I can't tell you the make I got at the moment but after talking to lots of cycle folk they recommended a flexible gel seat with springs and I found one I'm really happy with.

bike seats here

I remember there was one in the shop called a sofa....
this might be it
It looked very comfy but enormous.

If interested I could check my bike in the morning and let you know.

my arse is enormous blush

That second link looks just the jolly job, thank you so much, barking.

I heart MN, you can ask any question and someone will have the answer

try wiggle
but i don't know of any particular saddles to recommend.

what about padded cycling shorts too?

BoysAreLikeDogs Sun 24-Aug-08 21:11:56

Har har DB, no way am I wearing cycle shorts

I tuck my right trouser leg into my socks ho ho

Thank you for the link.

oi Sun 24-Aug-08 21:13:06

you absolutely must wear padded cycle pants

or you will have a numb vagina. Don't say I didn't warn you <taps nose>. Even if you wear them under your baggy trews.

oi Sun 24-Aug-08 21:13:37

or numb vulva I suppose to be technically accurate

well you know what I mean. Numb bits.

Dragonbutter Sun 24-Aug-08 21:13:48

oh totally, i know what you mean, but when we go mountain biking i wear them underneath my trousers.

barking Sun 24-Aug-08 21:17:54

Re numb vulgina - the sofa seat had a version with a hole cut out in the middle

Dragonbutter Sun 24-Aug-08 21:22:59

perv

BoysAreLikeDogs Sun 24-Aug-08 21:33:13

OMG just read that back

Was grumbling about my sore bits.

Didn't mean to offend.

Dragonbutter Sun 24-Aug-08 21:37:22

s'alright wink

wierdo

oi Sun 24-Aug-08 22:15:22

lol

ooh that bony soreness is awful. You need a long hot bath.

They never seem to provide enough padding in the right place, those cycle pants.

I can't see the seat with the hole in it.

oi Sun 24-Aug-08 22:15:56

perhaps we need to invent Super Comfy Padded Vulva Pants. We'd probably make a fortune (though we'd need a better name for them).

Dragonbutter Sun 24-Aug-08 22:16:51

fanjopants?

mrsmalumbas Sun 24-Aug-08 22:18:45

Apparently the thing to do is to slap a raw steak inside your pants. I'd go for a padded seat though personally. I have one I bought in a bike shop, it has gel in it. I still get a sore arse though.

barking Sun 24-Aug-08 22:20:56

Oi - its the second one down
Loving the 'vulva pants' idea - the guy in the cycle shop could hardly look me in the eye when I asked about 'cut outs' and angles. We have a big mountain to climb....

BoysAreLikeDogs Sun 24-Aug-08 22:21:19

har har at you lot

shock at steak padding

oi Sun 24-Aug-08 22:21:43

lol fanjopants. Excellent name.

Can you imagine slapping a raw steak there? It would probably be medium-well done by the time you'd finished cycling.

Dragonbutter Sun 24-Aug-08 22:22:57

yum hmm

oi Sun 24-Aug-08 22:26:27

either I have a giant fanjo or the wrong picture or that hole isn't quite in the right place?

I suppose what they are trying to do is get the pressure on the padded bottom rather than on the pelvic bones (I assume that's what they are?) in the middle (the ones that hurt)

barking Sun 24-Aug-08 22:33:30

Oi - see what you mean - have you seen the 'liberator' (fifth one down) which has a bigger hole.
My worry would be trapping one's flaps...
