Hi there
I've just had the same problem as I bought a man's mountain bike and the seat was horrendous.

My bike is in the garage so I can't tell you the make I got at the moment but after talking to lots of cycle folk they recommended a flexible gel seat with springs and I found one I'm really happy with.

bike seats here

I remember there was one in the shop called a sofa....
this might be it
It looked very comfy but enormous.

If interested I could check my bike in the morning and let you know.

you absolutely must wear padded cycle pants

or you will have a numb vagina. Don't say I didn't warn you . Even if you wear them under your baggy trews.

or numb vulva I suppose to be technically accurate

well you know what I mean. Numb bits.

Dragonbutter · 24/08/2008 21:13

oh totally, i know what you mean, but when we go mountain biking i wear them underneath my trousers.

lol

ooh that bony soreness is awful. You need a long hot bath.

They never seem to provide enough padding in the right place, those cycle pants.

I can't see the seat with the hole in it.

perhaps we need to invent Super Comfy Padded Vulva Pants. We'd probably make a fortune (though we'd need a better name for them).

Dragonbutter · 24/08/2008 22:16

fanjopants?

Apparently the thing to do is to slap a raw steak inside your pants. I'd go for a padded seat though personally. I have one I bought in a bike shop, it has gel in it. I still get a sore arse though.

Oi - its the second one down
Loving the 'vulva pants' idea - the guy in the cycle shop could hardly look me in the eye when I asked about 'cut outs' and angles. We have a big mountain to climb....

lol fanjopants. Excellent name.

Can you imagine slapping a raw steak there? It would probably be medium-well done by the time you'd finished cycling.

either I have a giant fanjo or the wrong picture or that hole isn't quite in the right place?

I suppose what they are trying to do is get the pressure on the padded bottom rather than on the pelvic bones (I assume that's what they are?) in the middle (the ones that hurt)

Oi - see what you mean - have you seen the 'liberator' (fifth one down) which has a bigger hole.
My worry would be trapping one's flaps...
