As I say, I'm going to try to live by:

'Don't sweat the small stuff'.

I'd like to see hundreds of others and see what other people base their lives/sanity on.

So list them here! smile

Well my mums is "Choose to have a good day".

I think its a pretty good one so I've tried to take it on as my own grin

FrannyandZooey Fri 22-Aug-08 08:13:47

I found one once on a carry out case of cider

"Keep upright. Avoid shaking."

If I manage those two things I feel I have done fairly well

Flightlite Fri 22-Aug-08 08:18:53

Lol Franny grin

I still haven't got one..I sometimes veer toward

'Don't try too hard'

Because often things will resolve if you stop trying to control them.

But I have very poor judgment and never know when I am over-controlling anyway, I tend to miss the wood for the trees iyswim.

lol F&Z

people will disagree with me but;

'you make your own luck'

and I stand by it, as long as you have your health and a brain in your head

"There's no pockets in a shroud."

So thats my excuse!

escape Fri 22-Aug-08 08:30:19

my mum says that all the time!

The key to true hapiness is not getting what you want, it's wanting what you've already got.

PLus, as my Dad always says, not matter what shit life throws at you - someone somewhere else is going through worse.

"Have a good time all the time."

If it's good enough for Spinal Tap, it's good enough for me!

Of course, on that basis an alternative would be "As long as there's sex and drugs, I can do without the rock and roll."

DrNortherner Fri 22-Aug-08 09:29:12

I also like:

Life may not be the party you expected, but you might aswell dance while you are here.

BlingLovin Fri 22-Aug-08 09:29:16

Enjoy the little things in life. The big things are great too, but they come by less often and there's a lot more hanging about.

cyteen Fri 22-Aug-08 09:29:54

My friend's dad has a brilliantly miserable motto.

"Life is like a shit sandwich: the more bread you got, the less shit you eat."

hughjarssss Fri 22-Aug-08 09:32:45

"Don't let the bastards get you down"

Guitargirl Fri 22-Aug-08 09:34:25

My Dad often says 'everything is temporary'.

Cappuccino Fri 22-Aug-08 09:35:50

'get some sleep' would be mine

I cannot think of a single situation where it wouldn't help

tho I love Franny's

saffy202 Fri 22-Aug-08 09:37:16

Mine would have to be 'pick your battles' in relation to 14 year old ds

TheGreatScootini Fri 22-Aug-08 09:42:27

'Manners cost nothing'
'Treat people how you would want to be treated'

I have these on the noticeboards for my staff at work.Bit worrying since I manage complex care services and you would think that the staff would be able to manage those two with consumate ease, but no!

ellideb Fri 22-Aug-08 11:06:42

'Tomorrow's another day'

and

'live and let live'

G2B Fri 22-Aug-08 11:07:50

Let's try and make this thread ridiculously long with mottos.

heididrink Fri 22-Aug-08 11:08:14

This too will pass

"The key to true hapiness is not getting what you want, it's wanting what you've already got." LOVE that.

Reality is negotiable. Perspective is everything.
