God how awful, poor woman. You absolutely did the right thing, well done.

Jeez, that poor woman. Well done you for helping and not turning your faces to look away.

Large glass of wine for you both, I think.

Oh, that is terrible. Must have been awful for you to see, let alone for the poor woman. Am so glad you called the police.

I thought there had been a change of practice in DV cases so the police can press charges (or the CPS) even if the victim backs down?

Poor you, you did what you could. But you can only do so much, then it is up to her to say enough, no more.

I'm so sorry you had to witness this. It must be so hard wanting to help but worrying that she won't press charges. Broken arms FFS!

You did the right thing and can oly hope she seeks help and presses charges

Sounds as if he couldn't have beaten her much worse, Aimsmum.

You def did the right thing.

That is awful.

Well done for getting involved - you may have saved her from permanent injury or worse.

A lot of people would just have walked away.

The police now have a pro-arrest policy and the CPS can decide to prosecute even if the victim does not want to press charges. So through your help you have probably saved her from furture attacks (well at least until the case comes to court). You definitely did the right thing.

Aimsmum i would report the phone tampering to the local trading standards office and any organisations that have awarded stars/diamonds etc to this place.

To do that is incrediably dangerous, as if a small child will know to call the manager if event of a fire when they have been told to dail 999

You have definitely done the right thing, well done for having the guts to do it.
I can totally understand why you would be thinking about the woman though, it would pray on my mind too. All you can do is hope that the guy who did this to her gets prosecuted. She may well have been kept in hospital too if her injuries were that bad

Aimsmum, she could have been beaten more badly. He could have killed her.

You did absolutely the right thing, and maybe the next time it happens, which it sadly will unless she presses charges and her goes to prison, she might recall the help and support that she got from a stranger, which will give her the courage to call the police again.

Well done you.

He holds his finger over her windpipe so she can't scream and he took her clothes? I think that is one of the most horrific things I have ever heard. It's terrible that someone can do that to another person, let alone someone you are supposed to love. Poor, poor woman.

Aimsmum, you absolutely did the right thing.

As for the B&B owner, let the local tourist board know he disconnected an emergency payphone. Also, ring the local TS office - they might be able to do anything, but they will be able to point you in the right direction as where you can report this man's foolish and dangerous actions.

I really hope that poor woman gets away from him. What an utter, utter shit

What a vile excuse for a man. I really hope she presses charges and gets away from him, otherwise she'll end up dead.

Well done, Aimsmum! And well done your DP as well - waaay too many people still think it's 'none of their business'.

Name and shame here, Aimsmum, I'm not far from you, and I wouldn't want to end up in that dive!

Report
DillyTanty · 17/08/2008 21:41

aimsmum you should be proud, it takes a lot for women to get out of these situations, yes, but they have to start somewhere and often that's with someone outside taking an interest.
