First Dance - ideas?

Me and dp are getting married in June, and we're trying to decide on a song for the first dance. We don't want anything too cliched and power ballads are most definately banned, we'd love something a little modern but the best we've come up with is It Must Be Love by Madness - and don't ask me how you'd dance to that!

Do you actually have to know how to dance nowadays? Cos that might be problem number two

We had "Could I have this kiss forever" Enrique and Whitney, we didn't want anything too smoochy (sp) and this is kind of slowish latino. Trouble was nobody else had heard of it but they did join in after a couple of minutes of just the two of us trying to dance

Dp always wanted Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now by The Smiths.
I always wanted All I Want Is You by U2.
Perhaps its a good job we've never married.

we had a Shenia (sp?) Twain track that we though rather appropriate as this was the second wedding we'd organised (to each other) and we'd had one other break up as well.

"Looks like we made it, look how far we've come now baby,
guess we took the long road, look at what we wouldn've been missing.
They said, I bet, they'll never make it but well look at us growing strong, still together, still going on."

We also had a sloppy Rod Stewart track "For the first time" - pure smooch. Lovely.

We had "when a man loves a woman" and I spent hours coaching my dh to dance. He has 2 left feet but we were v impressive and people sniffled and cried, including me.

We waltzed to the whole of True Love (from High Society). Our dance teacher choreographed all 52 (or whatever) bars and it was the most complicated routine we have ever done.

Mind we DH is a professional dancer

Lots of dance classes do 'wedding' classes just to get you round the floor. Or had you thought of Salsa....very modern

If I ever got married now (with children in tow) I'd have Christie Moore's "The Voyage" because the line "when we started this voyage there was just me and you, now gathered round us we have our own crew." But there are some terrible lines in it too!

A friend who is very suave & works for the FO & is a Bond fan had "We have all the time in the world". For anyone else it would be a bit odd, but it was perfect for him!
