Cream sofa with 2 children- would you??

I am having a dilemma. The sofa we currently have is a horrible 2 seater blue leather job with 2 matching armchairs. It is going mildewed at the back. They were in our (rented) flat when we moved in. Today I saw a lovely HUUUUGE squishy cream sofa with armchair in our fabulous local charity shop for a good price. It really is in good nick. BUT is a cream sofa with 2 children a mistake?! As much as I hate the leather at least it is wipeable I long for a sofa I can stretch out on and sluggle up in and I just can't do that with the one we've got. Please help me make up my mind! If it is a yes they could delvier tomorrow...

Only if it has washable covers. Ours is light in colour (and not a wipeable fabric) but I can stick the covers in the wash.

is it cheap? and woudl you be upset if you had to throw it out in a year because it was too dirty? do you kids eat/near on the sofa?

i have to admit we have 3 kids and brown leather sofas from ikea and they are great. the sofas i mean. the kids are awful

it is £125 for the set which I don't think is bad considering the size and quality. I think the covers are washable. Yes, dd does eat near the sofa. Ds's main contribution at the moment would be babysick...

We have a brown leather sofa and I would now always have leather! Easy to wipe daily with slight damp cloth or baby wipes. Very easy to look after.
I would have cream if my children sat in the kitchen to eat messy food and kept all felt tips away!
If you like it, get it.

so woudl you be ok to to spend that much if you only got a year out of it? can you keep kids with food away from it? ( and adults with curry?)

babysick is ok on cream sofas, esp if you are bf

Yes, I dont think i'd be too upset if I had to sling it after a year. And I am breastfeeding a lot so a squishy sofa would be loooovely

Yup. I've got one. Nice big leather sofas that you just sink into. They are GREAT!!! Everything wipes off easily and they look fab and are really comfy. I'd NEVER go back to fabric type.

I think you're right Starlight- I have a few throws I could pt over to make it a bit fairer on them. My dad is going to come over in the morning to have a look at it and asses if it will fit up the stairs to my flat- the woman in the shop measured it at 7 feet wide- bliss

I have a huge squashy cream sofa and 3 DCs. We saw it, loved it and then agonised for over a year before finally giving in and buying it!

All my fears were unfounded though as a year later it is still as lovely and squashy and clean as the day we got it (and lovely for BFing on!). The DCs do not eat in the living room though and pens are also banished to the dining area - ask me again in a year when DD is toddling around though!

Well I bought it and I loooove it. And it has done someone else good too, as I put an ad on freecycle for anyone to come and collect our old suite this afternoon and a lovely girl showed up with her dad to take it away

Good for you. We have a one year old and 2 dogs and a cat and I come home muddy most days and our cream sofa is hanging on in there.

Great news.

We've had this, well two of them actually, for 13/14 years. We have replaced the covers once as they wore out on the arms (we now have arm protectors on the second set).

They've survived curry, red wine, soy sauce spillages and DD growing up. But since we've had a dining room (used to live in a flat) eating is mostly banned in the sitting room.

yes i have a cream sofa buts its leather, any other material definately not. i have to babywipe the bloody thing everytime company is expected.

Best was when I'd been away for a weekend and he only washed the ONE cushion that had stuff spilled on it. It stood out like a beacon when I walked into the room, all bright and shiny against the flattened-by-bums other cushions.
