Please help me buy my mum something special.

I want to get my mum a present for the wedding, I have got her a photo frame gift to give her in the morning but want something for during the sit down meal.

I have ruled out:

• photoframe (obviously )
• anything candle related
• flowers

My mum has a lot of stuff, lots of home ware type things as well so whilst vases etc are not completely out they would have to be perfect. She has two dinner sets, and a home full of bits. My dad and I find her impossible to buy for because if she wants something generally she will buy it. He is buying her a personalised number plate for her next birthday because he says he has run out of ideas!

I want something special and meaningful, but not super expensive. I thought about a willow tree figure but none of them seem right for her. Maybe earrings but I have bought her earrings a few times so, I am not sure. She is 56, works as a teacher, hates spas and that type of thing, I bought her a manicure once and she was disappointed because she felt she could do better herself and felt very frumpy compared to the girl doing it.

Any ideas most welcome. Budget is under £30

a particularly nice plant - for me that would mean an apple tree, a sculpted bay, or a rose. sounds like the bay might be your mum's style. possibly a pair

Have you ever been to a store called Past Times? They are online as well and have some absolutely lovely stuff. My Mum loves it... not overly expensive and often a bit 'different' to the norm - worth a look!

Maybe a really pretty watch - obviously not a posh one but one she could wear for special occasions.

I was given a lovely paperweight when I was a witness for my friend's wedding from spaceform.

Actually the frame sounds like a lovely gift. Why not have flowers delivered in the morning and give her the frame at the reception (or vice versa).

Or have a nice breakfast together if you'll be with her in the morning - could you get champagne and croissants or something?

I love the spaceform idea.
The mothering bracelet is lovely but she can only wear gold next to her skin so thats a no go. I would love to buy her a really lovely piece of jewellery but everything in my budget that is gold looks a bit naff really.
I don't want to do flowers mainly because she will have a billion after the wedding and I don't want to fill their poor house up!
I had thought about a symbolic tree so will investigate - have to check with my dad because my mum has nothing to do with the garden (apart from admire it).

The photoframe will be a lovely picture of me and her looking really happy on holiday when I was about two but I want to give it to her in private before we go to the church.

Past times is a good idea its very her.

I would ask the bracelet lady if she could do something in gold she is lovely - would your Mum react to the glass beads or just the silver?

No the beads would be ok, its just metal that is not gold that she reacts to, even gold plated is no good. I will e-mail tomorrow.

I love spaceform so I would suggest that one - they do a lovely large paperweight that is about £30 which says Thank you for being my mum (which I have and adore )

Im not a fan of plants but that is just because I kill them and would feel so upset if I lost one that ment so much to me because of when it was given - but that is just because im rubbish at plants :S
