Once things have become mouldy are they ruined forever?

I ask in desperation.

We've clearly had a long time leak through our roof which we've only just discovered (wet smelly drips on my face in the night, nice)

I had stacks of clothes and bedlinen stored in the loft until we move to a bigger house and so far at least half are thick with mould.

I'm annoyed I didn't pack them better and really hope I can salvage them. Is it true that the 'spores' will just keep on renewing no matter what you do.

Wouldn't think so. Wash them at the hottest temp they'll stand.

IME I have never managed to get mould out, but I do have limited experience. At hottest temp, I don't think they'll continue to multiple but they may well have stained already. I betcha there's a clever chemical cleaning solution to getting rid though... Have you googled?

Apparently leaving them out in the sun ( ha! what sun?) helps to kill the mould. I also found rubbing Milton fluid on the inner lining of a cool-bag removed stains caused by mould but obviously you couldn't do that with a coloured fabric unless you love the tie-dye look!
