That's in the team competition. Individual pieces of apparatus are different usually iirc.

its the qualifying at the moment, so they all do all events.
then the best teams do the team final when they all do all events again (i think)
and the best individuals on each piece of apparatus do the finals in those events.
the best people overall do an individual overall competition when they do every event but on their own behalf, not the teams.
does that make any sense? (2 glasses of wine down )

ok, trying again (on 3rd glass so bear with me!)

say there are 6 of them from each country.
and say there are 6 events.

all 6 do all 6 events.
scores are recorded.

the top 6 (liking the number 6 atm!) on each event go through to the final for that event.

the scores for the people in each team are added up. the top 6 country teams go through to the team finals, when all members do all events again.

the scores for each event are added up and the top6 over all events go through to the overall finals when they do each event again.

so one person could do all events once in the qualifying.
then, all events again for their team in the team finals.
then all events again in the individual overall finals.
then their best events again in the individual finals (which could be all 6 events if they are FAB).

Don't you think its a shame though. You might produce a sporting prodigy, (we haven't), and then they have to either take enough drugs to grow a full beard (girls), or grow breasts (boys), or just accept that they'll get beaten by countries that don't care what happens to the health of their athletes.
