Techie assistance required - music to surf to!

I like to listen to my music whilst on the net so I use the CD drive or Media player library (stereo not near PC).

Trouble is, some internet sites have sounds/music and it is irritating having them interfere with my (often dubious) musical choices.

Anyone know how (if?) I can turn them off.
