Shouldn’t supermarkets enforce P&C parking restrictions?

Today I went to my local Tesco and could not get a parent and child parking space, so I figured it must be really busy. I was alone with my 2 year old and 8 month old but just about managed to get them out the car seats, crossed the car park to the trolley bay and go about my shopping. When we left the store I see one car drive off from a P&C space with a single adult only in and another had two ladies (over 40) sat in smoking! At this point I’m struggling to get shopping in the car plus children and then having to race the trolley back! I called the Tesco store just to inform them that maybe they should start to enforce the parent and child parking spaces but I was told they can’t do anything!
Surely they should be doing something as it’s their land?!

I think its because its not legally enforceable like disabled spaces are

i think supermarket staff have enough to do right now

those spaces are just a courtesy not a legality.

Sorry i know its not the point of the thread, but is a sign of things getting a bit more normal we haven't had a p& c thread forever.

yes, and there's one moaning about the use of DH/DD/DC too, things are definitely getting back to normal. Not long until reclining seats on the plane.

@Bellfit I would think that supermarket staff are very busy stocking shelves/picking delivery orders and on tills and have no time or inclination to be sorting out petty parking disputes.

Also not all supermarkets own their own car parks.

op maybe if you had you paid less attention to what other people were doing and minded your own, then you would maybe have been able to manage a bit better

They'd probably be less abused if they were further from the entrance. Appreciate that the short distance is easier for Parents corralling kids too but surely actually the main point of them is the wide space to open doors fully? Stick them a bit further away (in a sensible place for safely getting to and from with kids) and selfish idiots won't be as likely to nick them.

You really have no idea how abusive , intimidating and physically threatening the general public can be I wouldn't expect them to.

In the pay and display car parks of two of my local supermarkets (owned by the council not the shops themselves) there are NO P&C spaces. And yet people manage just fine.
