One of my neighbour's daugthers just came to see us, and told us that she has a CV/portfolile (sp??) model shoot tomorrow. BUT he is not charging her at all, but wants her to do underware, swimware, and naked pics (where they cover themselves with their arms etc) It doesn't sit right with me and DH and we are sure its dodgy. She is only 15, and I am sure that she can't do some of those pics.

I take it her parents are aware of it and are going with her?

Report
sweetcat · 16/09/2007 18:37

definitely very dodgy, what do her parents think. Do they know?

Dodgy I think. Some rusty part of my brain remembers theres an age limit for naked pics

Sounds completely dodgy. Don't know what the legal position is but I'd tell her to steer well clear.

onehackedoffmuma · 16/09/2007 18:38

that doesn't sound very legal at all, certainly if she's only 15.

MerlinsBeard · 16/09/2007 18:39

don't they have to be 18 for nude pictures??

Report
popsycal · 16/09/2007 18:39

waaay dodgy. You have to tell her parents

At 15? Surely it is illegal? Naked pictures? Of course he's not charging her, he'll make money off them.
What sort of parents would allow it? I know I wouldn't. This is not how girls get into modelling.

Her mum is aware and will be going with her, but not sure if she is fully aware that he wants posed naked pics

Actually - her parents ought to contact the police this evening as they may want to look into it.

Are you friendly enough to be able to talk to her about it? If her mums going with her though, I'm not sure there's much you can do, is there?

I'll talk to the mum at the school tomorrow, if anyone knows of a proper agency that I can show her, can you tell me?

its not even an agency, its just for her CV/portfolile. I said that a proper agency would do the pics and find work too for her

It really is dodgy. When I was little, some guy approached loads of girls from our dancing school. The photos were innocent enough but afterwards, he rang to chat to the girls and was well dodgy. The police became involved and set up a 'false' photo shoot and got him. This sounds waaaay worse.

Report
popsycal · 16/09/2007 18:46

A proper agency would not charge anything.

She really must'nt go. No agency with children on thier books even an adult one would ask a child to do naked shots however tasteful they are meant to be.

Report
onehackedoffmuma · 16/09/2007 18:48

A decent agency would usually only need a couple of snapshots or like you say some organise their own shoots.

There's no way this can be legit, sounds way too dodgy.

Have a look at Albas website

www.albamodel.info/

She doesn't need a portfolio an agency will take on with a couple of non professional shots. SAhe is putting her self in danger and wasting money.

Report
popsycal · 16/09/2007 18:49

Please persuade them not to go

Report

Right just been looking at Alba and on the website it says that even at a Glamour model test shoot you shouldnt take your kit off so it can't be legal for a 15 year old CHILD to do this.

"GLAMOUR TEST SHOTS MODELLING

Even if you are considering going into the very hard and competitive world of Glamour modelling you should Keep Your Kit On for test shots, before you join an agency (Bikinis at the least but no more).

Do not sign a thing! I have seen some very upsetting and sad cases of girls and chaps who have rushed in and bitterly regretted this later. Worse still, some of them had signed forms and can see themselves in publications that they have never given permission for and not received any form of payment for those pictures. So don't be the victim... Be the victor!! "

Did the girl go today?

Report
bubblagirl · 17/09/2007 19:24

it is illegal to do them shoots you have to be 18 or parent has to be present and give consent you need to find details of this man and report him sounds like this is for his kicks and many other girls could have been used what girl doesn't want to be a model
