He's finally decided to go for the managers position he's be "advised" to go for. And one of the things that is reguarly discussed at team meetings (but in "very" brief at the end) is

What sort of things the company can offer as rewards for good sales etc. Nothing too expensive, has to be "cost effective" but exciting - what sort of "rewards" would you like/do you give/get in your company for good results?

Also they have a yearl sales conference - which is, when all said and done a rather plain and boring affair - facts and figures read out, top 10 sales officers "prize" (or in case of 4-10 a certificate hmm), top sales team announced, targets for the folliwing year announced, food and drink given.......end of day.

What other "quirky" awards could their be, do you/your company do the "formal" bit in the mornings and then something more "interesting" in the afternoon (bear in mind that all sales officers work on their own so only get to meet up 12-15 times a year - so this is a rare opportunity to get together. Dh was thinking something along the lines of darts/pool/team "competitions" in the afternoon with each regional team competing against each other.

BUT he wants YOUR ideas (and yes he really did just call me to ask my "online community of friends" for ideas grin)

Thing is, people generally HATE that stuff. 'team building' - paintballing, team challenge, murder mystery, treasure hunt, medieval banquet, air hockey, casino, giant jenga etc etc.

Cold hard cash and as little talk as possible. That's what most employees like, I used to find!!

thing is that's what they get at the moment (well top 3 in the entire country get a cash bonus .......of which the taxman usually ends up getting most hmm), top in each region each month also get a voucher (£25)- but the general consensus is that most of them hate the current system - and the very boring sales conference - think "lots of men - most aged between 20-40 who can't go out to the pub in the evening - because they're working at that time - and most work at weekends too to increase their sales"....

Is this a question he is going to be asked at interview or is it something he is wanting to actually do, iyswim?

My DP's company (mostly male under 40) have their sales conferences at various of the country's finest golf courses and get to play some rounds in tournaments as part of the conference. This always goes down very well. Thing is anything cost effective normally makes people quite cynical I think so he'll need to be really creative to avoid it.

combination - apparently (according to his current manager, and the manager above him) it's something that is dicussed at most managers meetings.......and they can never think of anything except for a £25 Capital Bonds voucher for the top in each region each month, £2000 extra in the paypacket for the overall top sales person at the end of the year, £1000 for 2nd, £500 for 3rd and certificates for 4-10th place.

Ironically most of the tops sales people tend to work 6/7 days a week in order to get such high sales which means that the part-timers (who are entered into the same sales league) and those with families generally miss out on any kind of reward whatsoever as they simply can't match the number of sales from the top guys..

ooo sunshine that's a good idea....perhaps the golf shoes and clubs which have been languishing in our bedroom for the last 3yrs would finally be used (having only been used once........) if they did that LOL.

And don't worry about making people feel cynical.........they already work for Capita - so anything is better than nothing for most grin

Add an additional reward - top salesperson ...sales in relation to hours worked.

Someone who works 20 hours per week and makes the company £30,000 is actually making better sales per hour worked than someone who works 60 hours and brings the company £60,000, iyswim.

He doesn't work for Space Kitchens does he? grin
