I need to vent about a lodger! Starting this thread to let it all out.
Ok, so high on the list is after cooking, lodger leaves cooker dirty and food on the work surface.
Just now, went to the loo and let's just say the pan was not as I left it all nice and clean, loo paper finished and not replaced, and you could have used the air freshener, FFS! Angry
And breathe.

I always thought people cooked for lodgers, sounds more like you are letting a room in your place.

You do need more than one loo, you're not related.

However, in the here and now tell him to clear up after cooking and leave the lavatory in a decent state, it won't kill him.

I do wonder if it's worth the hassle. Is he good in other ways?

Hi Bluerussian, it's a woman, yes I know! I expect women to be cleaner but it ain't necessarily so.
I am letting out a room in my house. My lodgers cook their own meals, which is the usual way these days.
She's ok in other ways.

Mine smokes stinky weed. Luckily he's got his own annexe, but God that stuff stinks

Hi Single. The smoke seems to get everywhere. Next time would you state a non-smoker? I do.

You shouldn't have to put up with this. I have had 8 lodgers over the years and even the worst one cleared up after herself in the kitchen.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel, agreed, and next time a lodger moves in, I will have a friendly mention of that at the start. And I will reinstate the lodger agreement.
Both the recent messy ones were 25, younger than the previous. Is that a factor?

Most of mine have been about that age or younger so it might be a factor but it's not an excuse, iyswim!

One of mine was from Taiwan - she always cleaned up after herself but they either do it differently there or her mum did it and she was new to it. She would leave the kitchen sides swimming in water, which then got into the laminate worktop joint swelling it. I'd managed not to do the in 15 years.

It doesn't actually make any difference wauden. People say they don't smoke, but actually they do. Then you get to like them! This one's been with us for 3 years now.

Khione, did you deduct the cost of a new work top from her deposit?
Singlenotsingle, three years is great. Mine have been here for anything between 5 weeks and 11 months. I have liked them all despite their special ways.
So far I have dodged the lodger's food poisoning bug! Shock

All the lodgers I've had have been a headache. The first one didn't help with household chores and his room was very unclean. The second one decided to engage in illegal activity a couple of weeks after he moved in. And the last one who moved out last weekend had her boyfriend over 6 nights a week and was giving him her key so he could 'work from home' at our flat and do his washing whilst she wasn't there.

I'm currently advertising for a Monday to Friday lodger at the moment, but they're also wanting to move the goalposts and negotiate lower rent to ease their own financial situation!

Decided to take a break from having one for a while - it'll mean I can't put money into savings for a couple of months, but I'm also about to put my flat up for sale and I feel like it'll be better to do that without a random third party around who doesn't care about looking after the flat as much as I would like.

Just needed to vent this!

@VickyLA Vent away!
Just noticed your post; a gap between the darlings is a good idea. At first I enjoy the freedom of being able to slob about unknown, but after a while look forward to having another lodger... and their money in particular!
