Oddly enough I don't have many black summer clothes (although with this weather that may not be a problem...)

I think it depends on the age of the person..

I have found that people usually wear black for the older folks, and even then any dark colours seems to be the norm.

I think it is because these days not many people have a black suit they can drag out, and so wear anything dark.

If a much younger person bright colours seem to be the norm but I wouldn't recommend that unless you know for sure that is what was wanted.....

For the funerals I have been to recently I have worn black trousers but with a lighter colour shirt.

For my father's funeral I wore a floral dress, with a black jacket over it.

I don't think just heavy black is really necessary these days, is it?

my grandmother's funeral was on a very hot day - I wore a floral dress with a navy jacket

I think if I was going to one soon I would wear navy trousers and a smartish top.

Like heifer says, black is not always worn to funerals these days

I wore a black skirt & jacket to my nan's funeral, but had a vest top under the jacket, so removed the jacket when it got a bit warmer.

Well, I've raided my wardrobe and my choices appear to be a deep plum coloured devoire silk knee length dress or an ankle length black silk damask one. Either way I'm going to look like I'm going to a cocktail party (which I don't think my dear gran would be disappointed with ) I'm thinking of going with the short plum.

Of course, my choice of shoes are Merrill suede slip on trainers, gold leather flipflops or brown suede flipflops... Or party heels.

I wanted to find something dark green as green was her favourite colour but had nothing appropriate.

I'd go with the plum, and black party heels if you can bear them (usually lots of standing around at funerals)
