Help / Rant - What you do when you can't find your MOT certificate?

I'm normally very organise but i have just filed all my paperwork and I cannot find My Mot cert anywhere, must have lost it in the move, I have also lost a big file full of filed paperwork and my P45 (though not sure i actually ever had that)

Am feeling quite stressed about it and if im very honest i'm abit narked that i cxannot live my life without having annoying bits of paper to find/ file/ keep etc etc bet they never had all this back in my grans day!

Oh you know those blue stickers that tell you when your MOT is due, well its so faded I can't see when it's due, I have a gut feeling it is soon!

Shouldn't they all be online now? You can renew your road tax online and it will automatically 'see' your MOT cert.

Go back to here you had it done and ask for a copy. They should be able to search under your registration number and find it that way if you are not sure of the date.

If your last MOT was a computer-generated one, you should be able to get the info online using your registration number and log-book details.

The last couple of years they are electronic ones and you don't get given one. When you renew your road tax it automatically knows and you don't have to do anything. You could phone the garage you had it done and ask.

Could it be in the glove compartment of the car?

when you got it taxed you would have needed the mot?

Noooo, to check MOT online you need the ref number from the log book. We did it with one of DHs old vans. (if you had the mot certificate you wouldn't need to check MOT online would you...!!)

BTW - even though it is all electronic now they should still give you a print out MOT - in case you don't have internet access/debit/credit card to renew online etc.

HATE paperwork, is bane of my life! Good luck!

My point being youve had it in the last 6 months, and it SHOULD be near the bit of paper you needed to tax the car with.
Have you double checked it all?

if you think you need another one soon anyway, then why not go and get another MOT?

i always get into a complete panic when i can't find mine. stop looking. it will turn up. is it normally around the same time as tax?

we have had an electronic one for 2 years and never get a paper one. You just get a thing thats a confirmation you've had it done thing.

Won't the garage you used write to you near the time of your MOT? I have my car done at a dealers (only cos it's free) and they send me the annual reminder.

I always get into a mad flap when it's time to tax the car as 9 times out of 10 I can't lay my hands on my insurance cert/MOT certificate . One of these days I'll be organised enough to do it online.

Still not found it dp has been in the attic and still no joy! I have phoned the DVLA and they say as we moved 8 weeks ago i need to get a change of address form and sort that out first THEN i can ask for a new log book which will cost me £25 and takes 2 weeks to arrive but if my thinking is right and my MOT is due soon I could end up with no MOT before the log book comes! So looks like i will end up having to tax and mot it by the end of this month!!!! And i have NO money so will have to go into more debt to sort this mess out Sometimes I hate being an adult and having responsibility and wish i could go and live in a commune by the sea where I could grow my own food and be self sufficent! (not happening, need to just accept im a grown up and my life is sometimes boring and stressful!)

I'd be inclined to wait til it needs retaxing and have it done then - it may turn up in the meantime.
