Got a stone on my windscreen yesturday which has chipped it

has anyone actually called auto glass (etc) and then had them come and repair it for free

ie do they charge you at all?

I want to get it sorted soon cause my car insurance is up for renewel in 10 days and i think i remember (from last time when a stone cracked my windscreen) that you can only get 1 new windscreen (with a £50 excess) per period of insurance?

My Virgin car insurance includes free repair from autoglass but my chip was too big to repair and the excess for a new screen is £75

If its a small chip they just repair it, not replace the whole windscreen.

It won't be free but insurance should cover it without effecting your no-claims bonus. Shouldn't need to pay excess either, but you'll need to check your policy.

Hello

I live in the countryside and am on my third windscreen in two years. Each time I ring Autowindscreens. If the chip is smaller than a £1 coin it can be repaired. If not, they only charge you the excess on your policy for windscreens (see your certificate - you need that by the way and they will take the insurance details and pursue the claim on your behalf).

They do all the hard stuff and it doesn't effect your no claims discount.

I took my car in for a repair to a windscreen chip and didn't get charged anything. I'm sure they said if the chip could be covered by 5p then it could be repaired safely.

DH has just told me that Autoglass were in the carpark at Morrisons last weekend here - doing chips for free for anyone !

When they did mine it was just some goo that they put in the hole, and left it to set ! Can still see a tiny mark but it got through MOT the next day !

my chip is about the size of

" o " so hopefully they can repair it, but it could be just about classed as being in my drivers vision!

Is it within the area covered by the wipers ? If so you have to get it fixed by the time of your next MOT !
