The Nestle Boycott - a bit disheartened really that my self-enforced Kitkat denial isn't changing the world

Don't be disheartened, Pruni.
We will chip away at the buggers bit by bit!

Thank you. (Am HumphreyCushion/BrothelSprouts)
Those interim periods are specifically for items from Hotel Chocolat.
Or crisps.

does anyone do any moody kitkats?? you could eat those and pretend it was the real thing.

Tommy Wed 20-Jun-07 20:53:34

The Sainsbury's/Tesco version of Kitkats are OK.

Know how you feel though Pruners - am feeling the same about boycotting Body Shop now that they are L'Oreal and, hence, Nestle

NerdMagnet Wed 20-Jun-07 20:54:08

Ooh, I didn't know that, Tommy.

what? about the Kitkats? or Body Shop?

SenoraPostrophe Wed 20-Jun-07 20:59:47

I'm an anti-boycotter other than for short term campaigns

Nestle don't do anything that other baby milk companies don't do: they're all bastards. But they were bigger bastards and they stopped because of the bad publicity / boycott - arguably more because of the bad publicity.

I think other campaigns like the one that Hunker posted are more effective in the long term.

but anyway. rowtrees aren't all that. Shreddies are lovely though.

Desiderata Wed 20-Jun-07 21:00:16

Of course they're laughing swissly.

Bollocks to it. Have a break: have a KitKat.

<I boycott McDonalds but certainly not for political reasons. It's a food thing>

NerdMagnet - I feel all behind with name changes now - didn't realise that BrothelSprouts was HC! Did you notice that the website woman had her threads deleted and hasn't put an ad on btw?

<apologies for hijack>

Never underestimate the power of the individual. If 20 people did it and told 10 other people each, five of whom then followed suit then just think...........

I have just been to caribbean and become completely absorbed by the whole anti slavery movement where odds were seemingly insurmountable (because of enormous amounts of money and stake) but it bloody happened.

Like you and gutted not to be able to grace my table with San Pellegrion however.Pretty damned stylish.

I still think it's worthwhile. I too have been boycotting Nestle for over 10 years and for me it would still be worthwhile even as a personal gesture.

I actually don't think there is much awareness - I'm always surprised how few people I meet in real-life seem to know about the boycott. So it's worth doing just to spread the word a little.

CountessDracula Thu 21-Jun-07 11:57:43

oh god
the shame
I have a nesprssso machine

In my defense I have resisted one for years but I just caved in when last one blew up

i feel very bad

sophable told me to do it though so you can blame her as I am obv easily influenced

harpsichordcuddler Thu 21-Jun-07 11:59:05

go into busniess making ethical kitkats with free trade choccy.
call then lentilkats or something.
you would sweep up

ruty Thu 21-Jun-07 13:42:12

Could we perhaps buy San Pellegrino as a collective? Could Mumsnet become a global conglomerate? Don't see why not. I miss KitKats too, especially chunky ones, and I've never had a white chunky kitkat in my life. What makes them so damn nice anyway? Is it a special recipe or something?

suedonim Thu 21-Jun-07 14:28:02

Pru, I think the boycott does have repercussions for N***. I'm pretty sure somewhere on the BabyMilk Action site it says how much money they have had to spend over the years to counteract all the effects of the boycott and the bad publicity it engenders.
