I made some once, came out ok. Did you colour yours?

LoveMyGirls Thu 03-May-07 14:06:24

yeh its fab stuff, can also put stuff in it like glitter, essential oils, vanilla etc

FrannyandZooey Thu 03-May-07 14:06:35

Yes it is bubblegum pink. I used this recipe:

3 cups flour
1.5 cups salt
6 tsp cream of tarter
3 tbsp oil
3 cups water
Pour all ingredients into a large pot. Stir constantly over medium heat until a ball forms by pulling away from the sides. Knead the playdough until the texture matches playdough (1-2 minutes).

Store in plastic container. Should last for at least 3 months.

I added red food colouring and vanilla essence so it smells fab too. I am going to make some another batch and make it black and put glitter and orange extract in <plot plot>

what no swooning at BLACK, GLITTERY playdough smelling of ORANGES?

what is wrong with you all?

FrannyandZooey Thu 03-May-07 14:15:25

<stunned> at apathy

MN is not what it used to be, mark my words

Lovecat Thu 03-May-07 14:17:25

Sounds fab - at what point do you add the food colouring?

Does the food colouring 'leak' at all (that would be my main sticking point)?

JodieG1 Thu 03-May-07 14:17:26

Well I think it sounds fab

Ah

<settles back down happily with playdough disciples at her feet >

You put the colouring in with the water so it is a uniform colour. If however you wanted a marbled effect (which I think would be quite cool) you could just knead it in at the end.

FrannyandZooey Thu 03-May-07 14:23:31

The only drawback could emerge when I actually try to wash the pan, of course

home made playdoe is the best.

Reminds me, I must buy some new cutters.

LoveMyGirls Thu 03-May-07 14:28:37

I always put the colouring in at the end, i roll foil out to protect the table and poke a hole in the middle of the ball, drop in the tiniest drop of colour then need, if you bothered about your hands wear rubber gloves once its all rubbed and cooled down it will be fine.

FooFooTrue Thu 03-May-07 14:36:12

Once you've made it, does it last forever or go hard after one use??? sorry, probably incredibly thick question!

FrannyandZooey Thu 03-May-07 14:39:16

Lasts a long time FooFoo - keep it in a plastic bag or a container with a lid

LMG why do you do it that way, out of interest?

LoveMyGirls Thu 03-May-07 14:46:49

F&Z I have no idea just do, i guess i wanted to look after my pans the first time, maybe.

It does last a really long time if you wrap it in clingfilm or plastic bad and put in air tight container I've still got mine i made last october!

dingolimpet Thu 03-May-07 14:48:53

You can make that recipe in a microwave, just put it in for six minutes, but stir every minute.
really easy, and you can get powder food colouring that doesn't leave a residue.

oliveoil Thu 03-May-07 14:52:54

does the dye come out onto your table?

FrannyandZooey Thu 03-May-07 18:51:52

I always use playdough on a tray so it won't affect my table whichever

I wouldn't use it on an unvarnished table without a tray, myself

LMG I still have not washed the pan so I may be using your method next time!
