premonitions/mediumship and psychic ability

Hello,

I’m doing some research about premonitions/mediumship and psychic ability ie whether there is any evidence it exists or not. I am curious if anyone has been to see a psychic? And if so were they able to give validations and/or got predictions right? Any recommendations for a good psychics (if any!) would be fab! It might be that you yourself believe you are psychic.
However you might think it’s all rubbish. I am looking for those who have visited a psychic before making judgment on this topic.
Thanks 

Five mins on google will tell you the status of the evidence. There isn't any.

If your primary school science doesnt already convince you.

I'm in the fence with this subject. I really can't make my mind up.

I've seen a medium, twice. The same one. She was really good. If she's not genuine it's still a bloody talent because she knew so much about my family history (things even I didn't know about until I talked to relatives), the names of significant people in my life and their relationship to me. She made predictions that did come true... lots of things that were so accurate.

But then I've been to a couple of spiritualist church meetings and found readings to be exceptionally vague, could apply to anyone and too 'novelty'

I've decided not to bother with it any more. I keep an open mind but I won't be going to any more meetings or one-to-one private readings.

It'a all rubbish. If there was anything in it they'd be as rich as Bill Gates from backing the right shares and horses and buying the right lottery tickets.

Ok, I wasn't looking for opinions on how rubbish it is or that I am dumber than primary school science. I wasn't actually asking that, I was asking for those who have experienced strange things or unexplainable things .
Having experienced some very odd things myself I am not looking to be ridiculed or told why I am wrong. This is the problem. I am well educated and articulate yet there are experiences I cannot explain - some people may never experienced these things but that doesn't mean you are right!
Admitting odd experiences, well I have nothing to gain I just hoped for dialogue with anyone who had similar experiences and therefore trying to rationalize what has happened.
I find this subject makes people really rude and obnoxious.

I once predicted the lottery numbers in a dream. Unfortunately I could only remember 3 of them when I woke up.

The £10 came in handy though.

It's a pile of old bollocks, OP. HTH

The only experience I have had was rubbish. She didn't get any of the information correct, nor predict my future. And it was a very exciting future indeed so she had plenty material if she could indeed have seen anything...

I've also only ever heard "friend of friend" anecdotes- no one I know has actually heard anything factual or correct but everyone knows someone who has... weirdly.

Facts aren't rude. Anyone who can make proper judgements can see that it is all nonsense. Screaming that science isn't true doesn't change it.

Example -I don't know how Penn and teller do their tricks but I know it isn't magic, and so do they.

If you want to talk belief, go to the religion board.

"Having experienced some very odd things myself I am not looking to be ridiculed or told why I am wrong"

If you tell me what these odd things are, I can give you a perfectly rational explanation for them. Not ridiculing or saying you are wrong, just explaining things that you may have misinterpreted.

Yes I've experienced some pretty weird stuff, turned out I was having a seizure and I'm epileptic. I was having simple partial seizures and 'seeing' things.

My theory is that when there's a life changing event about to happen our brains go though an infinite number of outcomes. So, when something does happen it's easy to say, 'I knew that would happen.' because any number of possibilities have already been predicted.

Wow I'm really disappointed about some of these posts especially 'specialsubject' - why is there this intent to be rude ? ?
My post wasn't provocative ,rude, racist, sexist, homophobic ....I was simply asking if anyone had experienced anything odd. Thank you to the posts who answered me and weren't rude. If you haven't (and clearly upset with my questions) then you don't need to take it upon yourself to message.
If nothing more this sadly shows me there are people out there with too much time on their hands and angry for the sake of being angry!
I did post something on the religion and belief pages, so if you thought it was that important I post it there speak to me in a nice way and leave your ego out of it.

Amazing that you see anger!

Do you usually think people who disagree with you are rude and angry?

Charlie - I have experienced many 'odd' things. Alone and with others. I came from a position of disbelief to a place where I have to accept that there is something going on. Although I don't practice anymore, I can, if I so choose, 'tune' into other people. I have received some great readings and some which were pretty poor. I have also given some great readings and some which were not.

Mediumship is not about fortune telling or predictions. It's about acknowledging that there is more to our existence than meets the eye. There is a lot of ignorance both inside and outside both camps.

I am happy for you to ask questions and will do my best to answer them

As I said, tell me anything odd that's happened to you (honestly, not embellishments!) and I'll give you a rational explanation

It's really hard to talk about the paranormal on mn without being ripped to shreds.
It's a shame because it's fascinating.
Fortean Times is a good forum if you're after a discussion.

I knew my childhood best friend - who moved 300-odd miles away when we were teenagers - was pregnant... before she did. I had a dream that we were walking out of the church she got married in, with her carrying a baby girl. We'd not seen each other in years, and only communicated - at that point - through FB messaging. She wasn't trying to get pregnant, she didn't know that she was pregnant. And I didn't tell her about the dream until a week later when she sent me a message saying that she'd just taken a pregnancy test and it was positive, and how delighted/excited/scared out of her mind she was.

She had a little girl (who is now 8 years old).

When they had the gender-revealing scan, my friend said that she felt very much as though she didn't need to go - because I'd said, a couple of months earlier, that if my dream was right, she'd have a girl.

That's the oddest "thing", but there are a whole boatload of others.

So do I believe in psychics? Well... I believe that it's best to keep an open mind, because we simply don't know. However, I'm descended from the 7th son of the 7th son on one side, so... who knows! Grin

Thanks Whitehandledkitchenknife and FilledSoda thank you for your feedback.

I have had premonitions since about the age of 18. Mainly this happens like watching a film or a sense of dread or in very vivid dreams which I am happy to share in detail. Moreover, I have had some rather frightening things happen in my house recently and it has scared me but also I want to understand it so any experiences people have had would be welcomed.
However, I want those people who are here to ridicule to leave and go find another post. I don’t want to feel laughed at or uncomfortable sharing this info if there are a few people who are intent on being horrible.
I posted my initial post for likeminded people not to be ridiculed. I am looking for a bit of guidance or anyone who has experienced strange things which cannot be easily understood and how you have come to terms with it or how you dealt with it.

Thank you  x

So "not going along with it 100%"= "ridicule"?

Don't you want to be open minded enough to think there might be rational explanations to seemingly mysterious things?

BertrandRussell I am simply asking for those who have had unexplainable events happen to share. I haven't asked for anything more or less. I'm not sure why you're getting your knickers in such a twist about this. Sorry if I didn't explain that in my first post.
If you haven't ever experienced anything like premonitions or paranormal (whatever that is!) that's fine and I accept your opinion but that's not what this post is about. I'm sorry my post has annoyed you and you keep feeling you have to make a point but in a nutshell I just wanted a discussion with anyone who had experienced strange things.
Thank you for your in put but my post has been misunderstood.

I have had some seriously odd things happen in the way of premonitions etc, and I think that some people are so subconsciously intuitive that it borders on the psychic (including one of my dc although she doesn't realise it). Like a primeval instinct.

But do I believe in mediums and and fortune-tellers and all that?

No, I don't think so. I don't believe it's something that can be deliberately controlled and done 'on demand' so to speak.

Not annoyed or knickers twisted. Just find closed minds sad, that's all.

I’m doing some research about premonitions/mediumship and psychic ability ie whether there is any evidence it exists or not.

This is what you said, which is why you got the responses you did, which were not 'rude' at all, merely brisk and factual. People were assuming you were embarking on some actual ill-considered research project. If you had said 'I believe I have premonitions, and I'm looking for other people to share easily explained 'mysterious' goings on from their own lives', people could have directed you to the 'Unexplained' board on here.

contrary's post is a good example of how something entirely banal can be turned into evidence of the existence of a psychic realm by someone credulous. Women getting pregnant at any point between their first period and their last isn't exactly unusual, and neither is dreaming about a friend you don't see often, and a baby is going to be either male or female, so again, hardly a massive 'win' for psychic abilities.

BertrandRussell. Again, you're totally missing the point of my post. I can't make it anymore clear. I am not hoping for a discussion for and against paranormal activity and proving or disproving paranormal/mediumship etc. I am posting to speak and get a discussion with people who have had unexplainable events happen to them and for them to hopefully share their experiences. This comes from some experiences I have experienced - I'm not here to prove myself to someone who is hell-bent on telling me I am wrong.
Your opinion is valued but not necessarily the right forum.

For example if I was talking about Allah and my experiences of God whilst reading the Qur'an would you still feel the need to tell me I am close minded and wrong? probably not. So please just leave posting because this isn't the right forum.

I am trying to show you that there is of course debate about this topic but unfortunately you are in the wrong place as this is not what I am asking from the posters.

I've had one incident in particular that really shook me and made me realize that of COURSE there's far more to the world and universe than what we are aware of as a society right now. Not sure I want to share it on a public board, but It's not "magic" it's science that just hasnt been properly explained yet.
there are plenty of amazing unexplainable true stories out there.
Mediumship isn't about predicting lotto numbers and getting rich either.
