Lots of great schools near j27 or j26 of m6 areas. Some bits of chorley a bit rough, some lovely. Coppull seems to be a bit of an up and coming improving area. Rivington nice. Standish is getting overcrowded too many houses currently being built traffic bad. Orrell near the motorway also has some nice areas with bigger gardened older houses. Posher is wrightington parts of Parbold Mawdesley towards Ormskirk. Ormskirk is lovely wish I lived there.
Overall most places have great links to the motorways but depends where you will be working and if you have any kids etc. Southport is imo on the decline but lovely houses if you can afford one of the big ones near the coast. Schools in Blackpool rough from those I have visited I wouldn't like it there.
I'm not as keen on Bolton and towards Manchester way but my views are those of someone who is outdoorsy and has small children.
