What do you think of semi-intensive driving courses?

Hello. I've decided to restart my driving lessons again and want to pass this time! I've been looking into 'semi' intensive driving courses (e.g. over 4/5 weeks, with perhaps 5 hours a week?) I hear good things about it but want to know if anyone here has actually done it? How did you enjoy it? What was your intensity? Did you pass? Thanks! Smile

I did two hours a day for 5 days with the test in the afternoon of the fifth day when I learnt to drive. I passed 30 years ago.

The worst thing about it was the letchy instructor.

I had never been behind the wheel before - ever. I think it is very doable.

Thanks for the swift reply! I've done the test before and failed five minutes before the test ended by being in the wrong lane at the roundabout Confused (this was two years ago nearly and just gave up - which I hugely regret now!) did you find it stressful?

I hated my instructor Hairbrush, he was a sweaty letch and I was a young thing away from home Sad. If I had met him ten years on I would have dealt with him.

I didn't find it stressful at all, took my lessons/test in a city when I was a country girl.

My overriding memory is of the letchy instructor Angry.

After 7 years of nagging & 2 dc, lazy dh eventually did an intensive week & passed!!!!

It still amazes me but so much better than it dragging on for weeks & months

I did an intensive week and lost half a stone. I think most of it was tears.

I'm thinking of doing this as we can't seem to find time due to childcare. I could do it when DH has annual leave. (Already took almost 30 lessons last year, so hoping it won't be many more hours!)

I did it in Wales (I don't live in Wales) so the dh and the dc could have I holiday while I 'drove'. We rented a cottage.
Not much traffic in Wales either.

I did 2 lessons of 2 hrs a week for 12 weeks...though, that includes failing twice as well, turns out im not good at driving tests, lol.

That was without driving at all beforehand and really I should have passed my first test, which was after 8 weeks...but I got really nervous and mucked it up.

It was fine though doing it like that, I had a nice instructor though.

I passed first time when pregnant with 50 hours of lessons, I think it was 3x2.5 hours a week for 2 months? The maths of that doesn't quite add up but it was something like that. I found it helped my confidence to do it so regularly - you do have to at least tolerate your instructor though as it's very intense.

Barchester - what was your instructor like? I had an awful instructor. He would swear at me, shout and just make me feel uncomfortable!
Thanks everyone for your advice! I'm glad everything had a positive experience of it! I will definitely do the semi intensive course. Wish me luck! Smile

Mine was large, sweaty and letchy, he used to take my little finger off the wheel, wiggle it up and down and say 'just checking that you are nice and relaxed'. Ewwww, I was so creeped out by him (I am cringing 30 years on) but too shy to say anything.

Thank God (or someone at least) I passed. Ten hours was ten hours too long.

I did 2 hour lessons, twice a week when I really wanted to finally pass (had 3 fails). It worked - the long lessons meant you really got the hang of things and could get to the test areas too.
