Dp has just run some bloke over

Dp has just gone out to find a petrol station open 24 hours for milk for the kids in the morning. He was doing 30 in a 30 zone when a bloke literally bolted out of nowhere in front of the car. Before Dp had a chance to see him, he had hit him and he flew across the road and crumpled in a heap. Dp obviously stopped and jumped out to check he was ok and was joined by the bloke's young mates, one of them puched dp in the face. The bloke insisted he was fine and urged dp to go home. He is now home and a nervous wreck. What do you think he should do? phone the police?

Definitely call the police. He's done nothing wrong x

He's done nothing wrong but he should phone the police asap.

Definitely call the police. Your DP could be done for fleeing the scene of an accident, your DP was assaulted, the young man could collapse later from his injuries.

He has to call the Police, he's been involved in an accident and also been assaulted. Plus, the guy he hit may well have been seriously injured but not have realised it at the time.
I was under the impression that you had a legal duty to report an accident?

Make sure your DP has a sweet drink, he's no doubt in shock.

He needs to call the police for two reasons: to report the accident and to report that he's been assaulted.
Hope you're both OK.

Do you think it would ok to wait until tomorrow, he is in shock just now and it is late.

No, he should call now, the Police will advise and if he is unable to provide a decent statement then I guess they'll wait but at least get it logged.

Jesus of course he should!
The men could well be off reporting it as a hit and run.
The man may have a head injury and suddenly become ill in an hour or so.
Your DP has been assaulted.
Please ring them. Get DP to try and write down exactly what happened too while it's fresh in his mind.
Hope he's ok, what a horrible shock he mid have had Flowers

No, sorry, he needs to call now in case they call first.

He must report this to the police asap in case something worse happens to the injured party. He can then report the assault also .

He is just having a cup of tea and writing down what happened. he is going to call them after that. I doubt they will call round tonight anyway

Call now. They'll be busy on a Saturday night so it's unlikely they'll come out before the morning anyway for no crime in progress.

He feels terrible but he says he literally didn't see him until he was on the windscreen! He stayed with him a good 10 minutes even after having been puched. poor dp he looks frightened to death

Call them immediately, my DH was run over with much worse consequences and the arsehole that did it waited until the next morning to hand himself in so that his alcohol blood levels would be okay 😏. I'm NOT saying that your DH has had a drink, but to avoid the suspicion.

Also, I have no idea why he wouldn't have called the police from the scene?

Absolutely need to ring tonight

He needs to report it legally otherwise he risks being in trouble himself he should really have called whilst at the scene. Hope he is ok, sounds as though nothing he could do to prevent it.

He didn't phone the police at the time because the bloke asked him not to. No he definitely hasn't had a drink. He is ringing them now

My DH's in the Police force, your DP does need to ring and report the accident now OP if he's still to shook up you could ring up for him.

From what you've said your poor DP did nothing wrong but like others have said it's best to report it just incase the guy he hit has sustained any injuries and your DP really does need to report the fact that he himself was attacked.

Poor DP. He has done absolutely nothing wrong so good to be upfront straight away. Hope he's OK. More sweet tea!

Leaving the scene of an accident is a crime in itself. Phone asap but he may get into trouble for not reporting at the scene

Report
ohtheholidays · 15/01/2017 01:25

Bless him,I hope the shock eases of soon.

Can we not worry the OP any further. They are obviously in for a sleepless night without worrying about husband being in trouble for leaving the scene.

I'm sure they'll understand he was in shock and I'm surprised he didn't leave the scene sooner if he was punched in the face.

He should have called both the police and an ambulance. 'Some guy' may have injuries that need to be seen.
