Because I'm clearly not as clever as I think I am I've put unleaded in my diesel engine, and then I drove it. Like a twat. It's minus 2 and I've got another hour until the rescue man comes. Any hot topics worth discussing? Anything at all to help distract me and stop me from ugly crying at my fuckwit sad sorry self?

I did this once with mine, had the car 5 years, don't know what i was thinking!
I mentioned it to the garage where I get it serviced and he said that if I'd just topped up with diesel it would have been fine as the petrol gets diluted.
I'm not recommending this as a course of action btw!

Never done this but we only have petrol cars.
Hope your rescue man is not too long, are you one of those people that has items in your car in case of breakdowns? My DH used to put a sleeping bag in his car during the winter. I used to laugh at him but its probably not a bad idea

If it makes you feel any better I couldn't tell you how many times my colleagues have, over the years, put the wrong fuel in police vehicles. Now that's what you call embarrassing

Yes, like redcrayons, I've heard of you pump as much our as possible then top up with your correct fuel you'll be ok.
Was it terrible? Did you have the black smoke billowing out?

Putting petrol into a diseal car is apparently easily solveable. Put the other way round destroys the engine.

.
Yes, me, about 4 months ago. Drove about 5 miles and the car started making little jerky noises. I realised something wasn't right so pulled into a supermarket car park (at least that bit was smart thinking) and called the AA. Popped into the loos, got a coffee and settled in to wait. Whilst waiting, I replayed the fuel filling. And it dawned on me what I had done. What a plank.
Got a lift back with nice AA man who arranged fuel flush. Not cheap, but engine, thankfully was not damaged.
Hope you're keeping warm Peggy and don't have to wait too long.

Easily done. Sure it'll soon be sorted. Have you got your Christmas shopping done?

I started to put unleaded in my diesel car once but luckily remembered after 16p. I panicked and just filled the rest up with diesel then did a lot of googling and found out that it would either a) be fine or b) destroy my entire car 😂 It turned out to be fine.

I have, twice. Once in subzero temps, with a 3 month old baby (who slept the whole time).

Omg he's just arrived and I'm now in the warm van. He's quite dishy so not all bad 😉 My friend's husband also delivered coffee!

No smoke thankfully. As soon as it started to shake I knew what I'd done. Love that so many of you have done it too - and police officers 😀

I was doing my crimbo shopping this evening and feeling so proud and accomplished! That'll teach me not to be so smug!

I have, once it is petrol into a diesel you will be fine (I work in a garage on the phones/office) just fill it with diesel. It might be a bit funny for a day or two but you will be fine

This is his job - just rescuing the wrongly-fuelled and he's
he said he's busy all day everyday!! Still feel like a twat but happy to be one of thousands!
