my mother has a special birthday looming. we are going out for a lovely lunch on the sunday but its tradition for us (her offspring and grandchild) to go there for lunch on saturdays. she loves it.

i want to give her a break from catering for us (i've tried to do this before but she's very set in her ways) so i'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for ready prepared party platters? i see that m & s, waitrose and sainsburys do them to order but no idea if they're any good?

preparing food at home and taking it with me is not the thing i'm trying to do. i want to create an afternoon cream tea theme as we would have if we were out. neither parent is particularly well so taking them out 2 days running isn't an option and i want it to be a bit different but in the comfort of her own home.

We got various platters etc from M&S for our boys' Christening. It was great!
