WARNING ABOUT GRUMPY BUT GORGEOUS PAMPER PARTIES

user1465738063 · 14/06/2016 18:25

Do not trust this business or hand over money under any circumstances. We booked them to do a pamper party for my daughters 8th birthday and paid them a 50% deposit. We also paid extra for the convenience of party bags. The party was booked for today (11 June 2016). Late yesterday afternoon my wife receives a phone call informing her that she will not be getting party bags (despite the fact that we had already paid for them). This caused unnecessary and unexpected stress as we had to run around the night before trying to sort out more party bags. Little did we know that this was just the beginning of one of the most unprofessional and distressing experiences a parent (and child) could have. Despite being informed that two therapists would attend the party (for 12 girls) only one arrives at the venue. One therapist (artiste) can clearly not pamper 12 girls on her own so we immediately became a little suspicious. 30 minutes before the party was due to begin the 'grumpy but gorgeous' representative came in and informed us that the party was not going ahead as the venue was 'unsuitable'. The reasons given for this were 'parking' and the fact that she had to climb a short flight of stairs (around 15 stairs altogether). She also mumbled something about insufficient 'plug points'. Her reasons were absolutely ludicrous. We had hired first floor rooms in the Windlesham church building which based in a small village. The parking could not have been easier or more convenient. There was ample parking within 25 meters of the front door. Furthermore, she was literally able to drive and even park her car within 2 meters the front door for the purposes of loading/unloading any equipment (which my wife and I also offered to do for her) if she had wanted to. There were also at least 14 plug points in the venue. It soon became clear that she had never intended to do the party (she even had a male passenger waiting for her in her car). The 'Grumpy but Gorgeous Pamper Party' did not go ahead and we were all left extremely distressed by the whole incident. Fortunately, a group of mums jumped into action. While one of the mothers entertained the kids 'Brownies' style the others rushed off and purchased pampering products and equipment. The kids ended up being pampered 'mummy style' and giving each other beauty treatments. They had a ball doing it. We are so grateful to the mothers that helped out. Thank you so much. It is nice to know that the world is still full of such genuine, kind and wonderful people.

We need to ensure that no other parents or children fall victim to this unscrupulous business.

Since being scammed I have been doing more research on this business. See below:

UPDATE 1: I draw your attention to the following link with the heading (Pamper party scam - grumpy but gorgeous) which appears to indicate a dubious history behind the Grumpy But Gorgeous pamper party provider (forums.moneysavingexpert…)

UPDATE 2: The more I dig around the more information I find. I have now also ascertained the 'Grumpy But Gorgeous' appeared on RIP OFF BRITAIN (series 6 Episode 8) in 2014. There is also a Facebook group called 'Grumpy but Gorgeous Girls Pamper Parties Scam' of people who have been scammed over the past few years.

UPDATE 3: She is refusing to refund us unless we delete the reviews. There is no way I am deleting a genuine, accurate review.

What an awful thing to happen, well done for managing to salvage something of it. You need to take her to the small claims court to get your money back. I've never done this but understand it's very easy to do and they will have to pay your costs. You could contact them telling them you plan to do so first and that might galvanise them into refunding and save you the faff.

I have also had a terrible experience with grumpy but gorgeous. I did a few parties for them.. For them to refuse to pay me. First pay day was Wednesday then Thursday and then Friday and then nothing. After posting a previous review with regards to employees not being CRB checked, Danielle tells me I made a wrong move and sends me laughing faces! Products are brought from the £1 and at times have to be paid for by the host as management fail to communicate. Many hosts are owed money and customers too from what I can see. More fool me for not doing my research...

There are whole threads on GBG on moneysavingexpert. They have been scamming people for years, just changing the website etc. Think it is in the scams and warnings section. Also there is facebook page forvthose she has let down.

I have come across them all today, thank you. It isn't something we all think of looking for when applying for jobs. You wouldn't expect someone to rip people off let alone for a child's party. Disgusting. Things will only be done if we all work together in order to be heard.

This is our experirnce of 'Grumpy but gorgeous pamper party'. We booked 'grumpy but gorgeous' pamper party for our daughters 9th birthday party On the 17th September 2016.

We had numerous problems during the party and afterwards.

Firstly only one person was sent to look after the 8 children which meant whilst hair and make-up was done, the remaining children were left bored with just foot spas (some had to wait up to am hour!).

Then the chocolate fountain our daughter specifically requested was faulty and therefore left 8 disappointed children.

We were told at the party to provide hats, scarves, props for the cat walk (which other pamper party companies previously used provide).

We had to tidy up all the mess including emptying foot spas and packing equipment away for the therapist. In the end the party over ran by 40 minutes (more had we not helped tidy and pack things away for the therapist) meaning parents were having to hang around.

I contacted 'grumpy but gorgeous' to give them feedback, but after we paid and they have taken your money there is no such thing as customer service. I have given Daniella plenty of opportunity to rectify this issue and respond but has simply ignored us on every occasion. I called and she denies receiving all our emails even though its the same email address we had numerous responses from her when booking! (Strange!!)

I feel the party was way over priced, run by a bunch of amateurs with shockingly bad customer service. Please consider this before thinking of booking your child's party.

Funnily enough they reported my review on trustpilot within 3 minutes, goes to show their email must work after all!!

Grumpy But Gorgeous.....very unprofessional post.

If this was a one off complaint then I could understand your frustrations, however your company has bad reviews so until you sort out your business model, you need to consider you will receive bad reviews as well as good.

Wow, GBG rep, that's one way to lose a lot of custom. Do you understand the term 'good PR'?

Report
FannyWisdom · 18/11/2016 13:59

Gbg you are confirming the bad reviews online by airing criticism at your customer.

The only thing that's served by this is highlighting your bad business practices and reminding people to avoid you.

Back of the net.

What a spiteful, petty post, and seriously unprofessional to boot!

This is hilarious. Have to say I'm struggling with name Grumpy but Gorgeous in the first place although the grumpy part seems very apt.

OMG you are discussing your former employee's behaviour on MN?

You really aren't doing yourself any favours, you sound totally unhinged.

Surely this is a breach of confidentiality.
