I'm in Absolute Shock.....

My DP and I have just been given an 8 bedroom mansion!

The last two years haven been horrific, financially awful! So we have been depressed and I've also had to manage my DP's mental health which he has now got excellent medication for. So we kept thinking how such awful things happen to us and we got very bitter too.

Suddenly out of the blue, his parents called us yesterday to discuss things and they told us that they wanted us to have their old house which is currently been rented out. We could also run it as a b&b and have a restaurant in there. The place is huge and has a pool and two jacuzzi's! The best thing is that it's free! It's not in this country but our hometown and it's right across the road from the beach. Its hot there all year round basically.

I just wanted to say that even when you are at your lowest like we were, there's always hope and something drastic might come your way in a good way Grin Now I'm looking forward to my future instead of wishing I were dead.

Congratulations. It's a wonderful thing they've done for you Smile

just a couple of practical thoughts spring to mind.

Are they officially giving it to you, handing it over legally? If not, make sure you get a water tight legal agreement in place as to what your responsibilities are/aren't.

Can you afford the running costs of the building? Council tax, maintenance, bills? Assuming you are responsible for them. They are likely to be high on a large building.

Enjoy your new home Flowers

Great op! Will you do the B&B idea? I always liked the idea of running a B&B, but dh says that on account that I hate housework, it's probably not the best idea. (he's right, just don't tell him)

I told him that I could do the admin & he could do all rest..he still doesn't think it is a good idea Grin

Also, are they giving it to you both, or just your DP?

Will your name be on the ownership documents? Otherwise, as you aren't married, it's just somewhere they are letting you live.

That is so lovely. I don't know why (I'm in the house alone on a dreary Sunday afternoon) but I have tears in my eyes. I have had depression, have been suicidal and at the lowest of the low. Kindness from friends and family helped me when I needed it most.

What an amazing thing for them to do. Enjoy the future in your new ahem house! Grin Best of luck!

Thanks for all your posts. Yes we cannot believe it either we are so excited.

With regards to legalities, everything has been done properly with contracts etc and his parents have put plans in place incase anything bad did happen. So we wouldn't lose out financially.

Luckily my DP us a qualified chef with many years experience and I have had a solid ten year management career and have also done event co-coordination, between us I think we would make a great team. Plus my parents live five minutes away and my dad is an accountant so can do our books.

We will also be able to have a baby in a couple of years as I don't think that would have been possible here. We are also planning to get married when we get back so to be with our family and old friends. I'm beyond excited and so looking forward to not having to rent crappy old places forever until I inherited my parents place!!

We don't need to cover any bills as his parents said they will cover them all until we are fully established. They said they just want us to be happy

Thanks again for your kind words. We don't have any friends here at all and I can't tell anyone at work obviously so it's great to be able to talk and express my excitement. It negates the sadness I felt when 5 of my numbers came up in the lottery the other day and I hadn't played it that daySad. I hit my low point then including a full blown toddler tantrum! HmmBlush

Thanks you Evelynj. I'm so pleased that I made you happier with my thread. Trust me if it can happen to us of all people it can happen to anyone. I haven't felt hope in many years and now is the first time ever that I have finally felt peace in myself. As if I know that I will be ok and I don't have to live a life of anxiety and I can be happy for once.
