What blogs do you like to read/want to see? Trying to find my 'niche'

I'd really like to start writing a blog, mainly to get back into writing regularly and I'd like to get involved with the blogging community - as I work from home and have anxiety issues so don't get out much it looks fun. Trouble is I've read loads about 'finding your niche' and not writing the same old stuff everyone else is otherwise you'll be completely ignored (am not hoping for a book deal but the odd comment would be nice) but I can't seem to figure out what I want to write about, I just want something to write about, especially as I have a few very diverse ideas (will list below). So is there a type of blog or subject you really love reading about and would love to see more of or one that isn't covered well at the moment and you'd like to see a blog about?

Some of the things I was thinking I'd be capable of writing about are;

Cooking/feeding the family well on a low budget, the typical 'champagne on a lemonade budget' stuff because I do it every week, but I think maybe that's been done to death a bit? Or anything to do with living on a low budget?

Parenting, again doing it every week, but again a bit done to death and I only have a preteen so no attractive 'toddler walks in the woods' photos to use. Is there an aspect that's not being covered?

A wedding blog, especially focusing on the 'ideas for themes'/ moodboards side as I'm planning my own wedding and this is the bit I've enjoyed most but again, is it overdone, especially with Pinterest to look at?

Creative writing - maybe a general 'what I've written' type or something very specific but quirky like 'dates with fictional characters' (fictional obviously)

Doing a 'bucket list'

Best/top 5 or 10 of a particular product/thing each week?

A blog about trying out ideas on Pinterest and how they actually turn out? (although I know there's 'Pinterest fail' type sites out there)

Writing about the news - some specific category or area of news?

A 'funny' blog just about my life?

Reviewing something? I love books but that's definitely already been done! Not sure what else wouldn't involve lots of expense.


Can't write about anything that involves buying lots regularly to keep up, ie a clothes/makeup blog, for the low budget mentioned above . Any suggestions/requests?

Things to do in the UK that are off the beaten track. Days out, quirky museums, etc.

Good idea Gilbert - would you be interested if the majority was 'things you can do cheaply/free anywhere' with just the odd 'quirky museum' thrown in as most of what we do involves not going 'somewhere specific' as it involves transport costs/charges etc.

I think the best ones have developed organically. People have started blogging about something they enjoy or that interests them and things have grown from there, rather than an overnight success story from a business plan.

If you write about what you are passionate about it will come across in your writing and people will want to read it. You may well end up narrowing things into a niche area as you go down the road but starting a blog with a view to achieving a book deal seems a bit over planned and doomed to fail (sorry).

Thanks Squeezy, am not actually looking for a book deal, I said in the OP I wasn't hoping for that, just for a few visits/comments so don't want a blog people will outright ignore - I'd be incredibly surprised if it actually made any money/became 'famous'. Fair point about choosing something you're passionate about but as I have quite a few ideas which are too varied to include in one blog I wanted some pointers about what might be more/less welcome as I wouldn't want to start a blog about say cooking on a budget and find everyone's fed up with that when I could have been just as passionate about a wedding blog that was actually wanted by someone.

Ideas for activities would be good, especially with older children. I suspect the market is saturated with toddler blogs.
